Places to Visit in Anantapur

Lepakshi and the Hanging Pillar

Lepakshi and the Hanging Pillar

Around fifteen kilometres off the highway just across the Andhra border, the Veerabhadra temple at Lepakshi is one of the finest sixteenth-century Vijayanagara sites anywhere. Its celebrated hanging pillar rests fractionally clear of the floor - a cloth can be passed beneath it - and the ceilings carry the largest surviving mural on a single panel in India, showing the fourteen incarnations of Shiva in vegetable dye. Outside stands a monolithic Nandi carved from a single granite boulder, among the largest in the country. Visit in the morning. Allow ninety minutes for the temple and the Nandi, and it is easily the best short detour on any route out of Bangalore.

Allow ninety minutes for the temple and the Nandi, and it is easily the best short detour on any route out of Bangalore.

Puttaparthi and Prasanthi Nilayam

Puttaparthi and Prasanthi Nilayam

Around forty kilometres east of the highway near Penukonda, Puttaparthi was a small village until it became the base of Sathya Sai Baba, and it is now a town built around the Prasanthi Nilayam ashram with visitors from across the world. The complex includes the samadhi, the Sai Kulwant Hall, the Chaitanya Jyoti Museum and a planetarium, alongside the super speciality hospital and university that were established here. Visit for the ashram, which operates its own timings and conventions - dress modestly, expect silence in the main areas, and check the current darshan and visiting arrangements before you travel, as they are set by the trust.

Penukonda Fort

Penukonda Fort

When Hampi fell in 1565 the Vijayanagara court retreated here, and Penukonda served as the capital for decades afterward - which is why a small town in southern Anantapur holds a fortress of this scale. The Gagan Mahal, a two-storey Indo-Islamic palace, survives in good condition, alongside temples, the Sher Khan mosque and the Babayya Dargah, with fortifications climbing the hill above. Visit for the Gagan Mahal and the sense of a capital in exile. It is a short detour off the highway and takes about an hour, and it pairs naturally with Lepakshi into a single Vijayanagara day.

Thimmamma Marrimanu

Thimmamma Marrimanu

Near Kadiri, around a hundred kilometres east of Anantapur, stands a banyan tree whose canopy is recognised as the largest of any single tree in the world - it covers something in the order of five acres, with thousands of aerial roots that have become trunks, so that walking into it feels less like approaching a tree than entering a forest that happens to be one organism. A small shrine to Thimmamma sits beneath it. Visit if you have a full day and an interest in the genuinely unusual; it is a long drive from the city for a single sight, but there is nothing else like it in India.

Tadipatri and the Vijayanagara Temples

Tadipatri and the Vijayanagara Temples

Tadipatri, around fifty kilometres northeast of Anantapur on the Penna river, holds two temples that ought to be far better known than they are. The Bugga Ramalingeswara temple has gopurams covered in carved stone of remarkable density, with the sanctum sitting below river level and a spring feeding it. The Chintala Venkataramana temple has a stone chariot and carved pillars of a quality that stands comparison with Hampi. Visit for the carving. These are among the finest Vijayanagara works surviving anywhere and they receive almost no visitors, which is both a shame and the reason to go.

Gooty, Rayadurgam and Kadiri

Gooty, Rayadurgam and Kadiri

Three more forts and a temple for anyone spending real time in the district. Gooty, on the highway north of Anantapur, is a Vijayanagara and later Maratha hill fort on a steep granite outcrop, held by Murari Rao and taken by Hyder Ali after a long siege. Rayadurgam, to the west, is a substantial hill fort with a series of temples on the ascent. Kadiri holds the Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple, a significant Vijayanagara foundation with a well-known annual brahmotsavam. Visit any of these if the district rather than the city is your destination - collectively they make Anantapur one of the more rewarding fort circuits in South India.

Tempo Traveller Packages for the Anantapur Route

Nothing here is a fixed menu. Every quotation is built around group size, destination and whether you are returning the same day, but almost every enquiry on this corridor falls into one of the five shapes below.

Corporate and Same-Day Return Package

The fastest growing booking type on this route, driven by the automotive plant and supplier belt around Penukonda. The 17 and 18 seater variants take a full team or a visiting delegation, and for larger movements we run two vehicles on one schedule. We quote the day as a package with a stated hour allowance rather than as two one-way trips, because the vehicle staying with you is the point when meetings run over or a second unit gets added. Documentation is handled up front: GST invoicing, a Proforma Invoice for purchase-order approval, monthly consolidated billing across repeat trips and thirty-day credit terms for signed accounts. Tell us whether Penukonda or Anantapur city is your destination, because the routing and the quote differ. Our corporate travels bangalore desk handles standing arrangements.

Pilgrimage Package

For groups visiting Puttaparthi, which is the single most common leisure destination in the district and draws people from across the world. A 12 or 13 seater covers most family parties; larger groups move to the 17 or 18 seater. We plan these around the ashram timings rather than around the drive, since Prasanthi Nilayam operates its own schedule and conventions, and we advise confirming current darshan and visiting arrangements with the trust before travelling. For groups combining Puttaparthi with Lepakshi and Penukonda, a two-day itinerary works far better than compressing all three into one day, and it costs less than most people assume.

Heritage Day Trip Package

The version of this route we would recommend to any group travelling for interest rather than obligation, and the one that suits school and institutional excursions best. Lepakshi and Penukonda together make one of the finest day trips available from Bangalore: a sixteenth-century temple with the largest surviving single-panel mural in India, and the fortress capital the Vijayanagara empire fled to, within forty kilometres of each other and both a short detour off excellent highway. Leave at 6:30 AM, cover both properly, and be home by evening. For a longer version, add Tadipatri and Gooty across two days, which very few visitors ever do.

Budget Package

For groups where the priority is the lowest defensible per-head figure. This is one of the cheapest outstation days we operate for a group: the highway is excellent so there is no case for a vehicle upgrade on the drive itself, the distance is short, and a same-day return finishes inside the driver bata threshold, which removes a charge that applies on most comparable routes. Budget means a standard AC 12 seater tempo traveller bangalore variant and a direct itinerary. It does not mean an older vehicle or a less experienced driver, since fleet and driver standards do not change between tiers.

Luxury Package

For executive travel, client hosting and visiting delegations, which on a corridor with a major automotive plant is a regular requirement rather than an occasional one. This tier covers our 9 to 13 seater luxury tempo traveller bangalore range with high-back recliners, footrests, reading lights, blackout curtains and per-seat charging, and extends to the Force Urbania, which is a common choice for delegation travel here. Drivers travel in formal attire where the occasion requires it. On a route this short the argument is less about endurance than about what the vehicle says when it pulls up at a plant gate with your visitors in it.

Fare Inclusions, Exclusions and Advance Payment

Every Tejas Tours and Travels quotation for this corridor is issued in writing with the structure below. Nothing outside this list is charged and everything inside it is stated before you confirm. Twenty percent of the total fare is payable in advance to confirm the booking.

Included in the quoted fare

•     Base fare and fuel charges

•     Driver allowance

Not included in the quoted fare

•     Toll and parking charges

•     Interstate tax and permit charges

•     Driver bata after 9:45 PM, charged extra

•     Final rental calculated on total kilometres and hours, garage to garage

•     GST

Three points are specific to this route. First, the Andhra Pradesh interstate permit applies since the road crosses the border at Kodikonda; it is quoted as a separate line at actual, arranged in advance so there is no delay at the checkpost, and it scales with seating capacity, so an 18 seater carries a higher figure than a 12 seater and we quote it before you choose the vehicle. Second, this is one of the few routes where a same-day return comfortably finishes inside the 9:45 PM driver bata threshold, since a 5:30 PM departure from Anantapur gets you home by around 9:00 PM. That makes the day cheaper here than on comparable corridors and we say so rather than leaving it implied. Third, monument entry fees and any ashram-related charges are paid on site and sit outside the vehicle fare.

Insurance note: Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passenger insurance. Our vehicles carry the statutory motor insurance required under law and our drivers hold valid commercial licences, but passengers wanting personal cover should arrange it independently. Many corporate travel policies already provide this for employees on business trips, which is worth checking against your own arrangements, and for school and institutional groups a group policy is usually inexpensive and often required by the institution. We also do not operate sleeper coaches; the fleet on this route is seated tempo travellers in the 8 to 18 band.

How to Book a Tempo Traveller for Rent in Bangalore

Booking a tempo traveller for hire in Bangalore with Tejas Travels takes under five minutes. Follow these four steps.

Step 1 — Contact Tejas Travels

•     Call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773, or email info@tejastravels.com. Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

•     Share your travel date and your Bangalore pickup location — area, landmark, building, hotel or tech park. The KIA airport sits directly on this route, so Arrivals pickups add nothing to the drive.

•     Tell us whether Penukonda or Anantapur city is your destination, and for a plant visit give us the specific unit rather than just the district, since the routing and the quote differ.

•     Share the number of passengers, your preferred vehicle tier — Standard AC or Luxury AC — and whether you want a same-day return or an overnight.

•     For corporate bookings, share your GST number and preferred invoicing format. For premium vehicles, mention the occasion — corporate, delegation or VIP visit — so the team can allocate the best-condition vehicle and, where required, formal chauffeur attire.

Step 2 — Receive Your Written Quote

•     Within 2 hours of your enquiry, a written quote arrives by WhatsApp or email.

•     The quote itemizes every charge: vehicle hire rate in rupees per kilometre or as a flat package, the hour allowance on a same-day return, driver allowance, applicable toll estimates, the Andhra Pradesh interstate permit as its own line, and GST.

•     No verbal-only prices. Everything is in writing before you confirm.

•     For corporate clients requiring reimbursement approval, a Proforma Invoice can be issued at this stage.

•     If you want to compare two seating sizes or the standard and luxury tiers, request both quotes at the same time. Permit charges differ between them, so ask for both figures.

Step 3 — Confirm Your Booking and Pay the Advance

•     Once satisfied with the written quote, confirm by WhatsApp or phone.

•     A 20 percent advance payment on the total fare confirms the booking and holds the vehicle for your date.

•     Pay by UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm), by NEFT, IMPS or RTGS bank transfer, or by credit or debit card through a payment link.

•     The advance receipt is issued within 30 minutes.

•     Your confirmation includes the driver name and mobile number, vehicle registration, departure time, pickup location and the full billing breakdown, all in writing.

•     For registered corporate accounts with credit terms, the advance is handled within the account arrangement rather than per booking, which for anyone running this corridor weekly removes the per-trip step entirely.

Step 4 — Your Driver Arrives Early

•     Your assigned driver reaches the confirmed Bangalore pickup point 15 minutes before the scheduled departure.

•     For airport pickups, the driver coordinates at the Arrivals gate.

•     The vehicle arrives clean, sanitized, fuelled and ready. For delegation and VIP bookings the driver is in formal attire.

•     The driver calls 30 minutes before arrival as a courtesy.

•     During the trip the driver handles all routing, toll payments and the border checkpost, and stays with the group through the day on a same-day return.

•     At trip end the balance is settled after deducting the advance. Any additional kilometres or hours are billed at the pre-agreed rate.

Quick booking: WhatsApp +91 9980277773 with your group size, Bangalore pickup location, whether you are going to Penukonda or Anantapur city, and your travel date. Written quote in 2 hours.

Payment Methods

Tejas Travels accepts all major digital and traditional payment methods for both the advance and the final settlement at trip end.

•     UPI — Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM UPI and Amazon Pay. The fastest method, with instant confirmation on receipt. Recommended for all advance deposits.

•     Bank transfer — NEFT, IMPS and RTGS. Used for corporate clients and larger advances. IMPS is instant; NEFT can take up to 2 hours.

•     Credit or debit card — Visa, Mastercard and RuPay, through a payment link sent to your registered mobile or email. Valid for the advance and for full payment.

•     Net banking — all major Indian banks, through a payment link by WhatsApp or email. Preferred for Bangalore IT corporate purchase-order approvals.

•     Cash — accepted for the balance at trip end, with a receipt issued. The advance itself must be digital for the booking to be confirmed.

•     Corporate credit — 30-day credit terms for signed corporate accounts, with monthly consolidated invoicing available. On this corridor, where repeat trips to the plant belt are common, a standing account produces a single monthly invoice instead of a per-trip settlement.

Payment note: a 20 percent advance confirms your booking and guarantees vehicle availability on your date. No advance means no confirmed booking. A digital receipt is issued within 30 minutes of every payment.

Cancellation Policy

Tejas Travels maintains a fair, transparent and tiered cancellation policy. All terms are communicated in writing at booking confirmation, with no hidden conditions.

•     More than 72 hours before departure — no cancellation charge. 100 percent of the advance is refunded within 5 to 7 working days.

•     48 to 72 hours before departure — 10 percent of the total trip fare. The advance is refunded less the 10 percent deduction.

•     24 to 48 hours before departure — 25 percent of the total trip fare. The advance is refunded less the 25 percent deduction.

•     12 to 24 hours before departure — 50 percent of the total trip fare. The advance is refunded less the 50 percent deduction.

•     Less than 12 hours before departure — 75 percent of the total trip fare. Minimal or no refund, depending on the value of the trip.

•     No-show, where the vehicle has been deployed and the group is absent — 100 percent of the total trip fare. No refund; the full fare is payable.

•     Cancellation by Tejas Travels, for breakdown or force majeure — no charge. 100 percent refunded within 2 working days, or an alternate vehicle offered at the same rate.

Special cancellation conditions

•     Corporate contract bookings: contract terms govern. Business travel dates move frequently on this corridor, so modifications with 24-hour notice are accommodated subject to vehicle availability.

•     Peak dates — the Kadiri brahmotsavam, Puttaparthi festival dates, New Year and long weekends: minimum 48-hour notice for a full refund. Less than 24 hours is non-refundable.

•     Multi-day and institutional bookings: for trips booked more than 7 days ahead, a minimum 5-day notice is required for a full refund.

•     Force majeure — bandhs, road closures or government restrictions: 100 percent refund within 2 working days regardless of notice period.

•     Modifications to date, seating or route with more than 24 hours notice: accommodated at no penalty, subject to availability. Note that a seating change may alter the permit charge.

How to cancel: call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773 with your booking reference. Cancellation confirmation within 2 hours, and the refund goes back to the original payment method within the stated timelines.

Refund Policy

All refunds are processed to the original payment instrument used for the advance. No cash refund is issued unless the advance was paid in cash.

•     Cancellation more than 72 hours before departure: 100 percent of the advance paid, in 5 to 7 working days.

•     Cancellation 48 to 72 hours before departure: advance minus the 10 percent charge, in 5 to 7 working days.

•     Cancellation 24 to 48 hours before departure: advance minus the 25 percent charge, in 5 to 7 working days.

•     Cancellation 12 to 24 hours before departure: advance minus the 50 percent charge, in 7 to 10 working days.

•     Cancellation by Tejas Travels for operational reasons: 100 percent of the advance paid, in 2 working days on priority processing.

•     Trip shortfall where actual kilometres fall below the minimum: proportional credit on the excess, settled at trip end against the final balance.

•     Billing error or overcharge: the full overcharged amount, in 2 to 3 working days after verification.

•     Duplicate payment: the full duplicate amount, in 2 to 3 working days after confirmation.

Refund by payment method

•     UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm): refunded to the UPI-linked bank account within 3 to 5 working days.

•     Credit or debit card: refunded to the originating card within 5 to 7 working days.

•     Bank transfer: refunded to the originating account within 3 to 5 working days, with account details re-confirmed before processing.

•     Cash: refunded at the Tejas Travels Bangalore office, or transferred by IMPS within 5 working days.

Refund contact: WhatsApp +91 9980277773 with your booking reference, advance receipt and the reason for the refund. Confirmation within 24 hours. For billing disputes, contact us within 7 days of trip completion; genuine disputes are resolved within 3 working days.

Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Anantapur Tempo Traveller

The bangalore to anantapur distance is around 205 km via NH 44 north through Devanahalli, Chikkaballapur, Bagepalli and Penukonda, with reported figures between 200 km and 215 km. A loaded tempo traveller takes 3 hours to 3 hours 45 minutes with one halt. It is six-lane divided highway effectively the whole way with no ghat, no forest gate and no significant bottleneck beyond the exit from Bangalore, which makes it one of the most reliably timed group routes we operate.

Comfortably, and this is the route where that is most true. Leave at 5:30 AM and you are in Anantapur by around 9:30 AM; leave by 5:30 PM and you are home by around 9:00 PM, which is inside the driver bata threshold and makes the day cheaper than on comparable routes. That gives roughly eight usable hours on the ground. If your destination is Penukonda rather than Anantapur city it is easier still, at two and a half hours each way. We quote same-day returns as a package with a stated hour allowance rather than as two one-way trips, since the vehicle staying with the group is the whole point.

Worth settling at booking, because it changes both the routing and the quote. The automobile plant and the supplier belt around Penukonda sit on NH 44 at around 145 kilometres, sixty kilometres short of Anantapur city, which is a two-and-a-half hour run rather than three and a half. A large share of our group bookings on this corridor stop there. Tell us the specific plant or unit rather than just the district and the driver plans the approach and the parking accordingly, which on a delegation visit saves a conversation at the gate.

For eight to thirteen passengers the 12 or 13 seater at Rs 22 per km is the best value in the fleet. For fourteen to eighteen, the 17 or 18 seater, and on a delegation booking the extra room for bags and equipment usually decides it regardless of headcount. One route-specific point: the Andhra Pradesh permit charge is higher on a larger vehicle, so ask for both figures when you compare sizes. Beyond eighteen passengers we would move you to a mini bus rental in bangalore vehicle rather than running two tempo travellers.

A 12 seater same-day return starts from around Rs 10,750. Multi-day plant-visit itineraries and heritage circuits taking in Lepakshi, Penukonda and Tadipatri are quoted on the day-wise plan. Every quote itemizes base fare, driver allowance, the hour allowance, toll estimate, the Andhra Pradesh permit and GST separately, and arrives in writing within two hours.

Included: base fare, fuel charges and driver allowance. Not included: toll and parking, interstate tax and permit charges, driver bata after 9:45 PM, and GST. Monument entry fees and any ashram-related charges are paid on site. The final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage back to our garage. Note that on this route a same-day return generally finishes inside the 9:45 PM threshold, so the late-return charge rarely applies. A 20 percent advance confirms the booking, with the receipt issued within 30 minutes.

Yes, and on this corridor it is a large and growing part of what we do. We provide GST invoicing, a Proforma Invoice at quotation stage for purchase-order approval, monthly consolidated billing across repeat trips and thirty-day credit terms for signed accounts. For anyone running the Penukonda belt weekly or more, a standing account removes the per-trip advance and produces a single monthly invoice covering every vehicle we send. Speak to our corporate desk rather than booking trip by trip.

Yes, and you should. Lepakshi is around fifteen kilometres off the highway just across the border and holds the hanging pillar, the finest surviving ceiling murals in India and a monolithic Nandi among the largest anywhere; ninety minutes covers it properly and there is room for a large vehicle to park. Penukonda, the Vijayanagara capital after Hampi fell, is a short detour further on and takes about an hour. Together they make one of the best day trips available from Bangalore, and on a business trip either can be added to the return leg without pushing the day past the bata threshold.

No on both counts. Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passenger insurance. Our vehicles carry the statutory motor insurance required under law and our drivers hold valid commercial licences, but passengers wanting personal cover should arrange it independently. Many corporate travel policies already provide this for employees on business trips, and for school and institutional groups a group policy is usually inexpensive and often required by the institution.
