Places to Visit in Wayanad

Chembra Peak

Chembra Peak

Chembra Peak is the highest point in Wayanad at close to 2,100 metres, and it is the first name that comes up whenever people search for trekking in Wayanad. The trail winds through tea plantations before opening into wide grasslands, and roughly halfway up sits the heart-shaped Chembra Lake, a natural landmark that never dries out even in peak summer. Trekking is permitted only in the morning hours and requires a forest department pass, so travellers usually plan this as the first stop after checking into their resort. The reason this peak features on almost every Wayanad itinerary is the view from the top: on a clear day you can see across the district into neighbouring Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, with layers of the Western Ghats fading into the horizon. Photographers and honeymoon couples in particular ask us to build a full day around this trek, since the drive up to the base and the return can take a good part of the morning.

Photographers and honeymoon couples in particular ask us to build a full day around this trek, since the drive up to the base and the return can take a good part of the morning.

Edakkal Caves

Edakkal Caves

The Edakkal Caves near Sultan Bathery are two natural rock shelters carrying engravings that date back several thousand years, making them one of the oldest pieces of evidence of human habitation in South India. A short but steep climb up Ambukuthi Hill leads to the cleft in the rock where the carvings are visible, alongside sweeping views of the valley below. History enthusiasts and school groups travelling on a Bangalore to Wayanad car rental often prioritise this stop because it combines a short trek with genuine archaeological significance, unlike a typical viewpoint. The caves close by early afternoon, so cabs booked with Tejas Travels usually schedule this visit either right after breakfast or immediately following Chembra Peak, depending on which side of Wayanad the resort is located.

Banasura Sagar Dam

Banasura Sagar Dam

Banasura Sagar Dam is the largest earthen dam in India, and its reservoir has slowly created a scatter of small forested islands that sit against the backdrop of the Banasura Hills. Visitors can walk along the top of the dam, rent a jeep ride around the periphery, or simply sit by the water in the evening, which makes it one of the easiest stops to fit into any schedule regardless of fitness level. Families booking a Bangalore to Wayanad taxi for a relaxed holiday tend to add this to their second or third day, since it needs very little walking compared to Chembra Peak or the caves. During the monsoon months the dam fills close to capacity and is considered one of the most photographed spots in the district.

Pookode Lake

Pookode Lake

Pookode Lake is a small, natural freshwater lake close to Vythiri that is shaped, unusually, like the map of India when viewed from above. It sits at a comfortable elevation surrounded by wooded hills, and the site includes paddle boating, a small aquarium and a children's park, which makes it a favourite with families travelling on a Wayanad tour package from Bangalore. Because it is close to the Kozhikode-Mysore highway, cabs travelling toward Kalpetta or Vythiri often stop here on the way in, before check-in, rather than treating it as a separate outing. The lake rarely gets crowded before mid-morning, so an early stop usually means calmer water and better photographs.

Soochipara Falls

Soochipara Falls

Also known as Sentinel Rock Waterfalls, Soochipara Falls drops around 200 metres in three tiers through dense forest near Vellarimala. A short walk from the parking area brings visitors to the base of the falls, where the rock face is popular with climbers and the pool below is open for a swim outside the monsoon season. Trekkers and younger travellers researching things to do in Wayanad usually rank this waterfall alongside Chembra Peak as one of the two must-do outdoor stops, and drivers familiar with the route generally suggest visiting early to avoid both the afternoon crowd and the security checks at the entrance, which can add up during peak season.

Kuruva Island

Kuruva Island

Kuruva Island, also called Kuruvadweep, is a 950-acre protected river delta on the Kabini River, made up of densely forested, uninhabited islets connected by bamboo rafts and small footbridges. Entry is controlled by the forest department, and the island is closed during the monsoon, so travellers usually check availability before adding it to their itinerary. Birdwatchers and anyone interested in Wayanad's wildlife beyond the sanctuaries tend to request this stop specifically, since the flora here includes rare orchids, medicinal plants and several bird species that are harder to spot elsewhere in the district. It works well as a half-day addition for travellers who have booked a longer Bangalore to Wayanad cab itinerary rather than a quick weekend trip.

Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary

Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary

The Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, spread across the Muthanga and Tholpetty ranges, forms part of the larger Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve and connects to the Bandipur and Nagarhole forests across the state border. Jeep safaris run at fixed morning and evening slots and offer a real chance of spotting elephants, deer, and if you are fortunate, a distant tiger or leopard. This is usually the first stop suggested to anyone booking an outstation cab Bangalore to Wayanad specifically for wildlife viewing, since the sanctuary sits close to the Karnataka border and can be visited on the way in if timed correctly. Safari slots are limited, so it is best to have your driver confirm timings a day in advance.

Thirunelli Temple

Thirunelli Temple

Thirunelli Temple, tucked into the Brahmagiri hills near Mananthavady, is one of Kerala's oldest Vishnu temples and is often referred to as the Kashi of the South for its role in ancestral rites. The temple architecture, with its stone pillars and surrounding forest, draws both pilgrims and travellers who simply want a quieter, spiritual stop away from the busier parts of the district. It sits roughly an hour from Kalpetta, so most itineraries pair it with the nearby Pakshipathalam trekking trail or treat it as the final stop before heading back toward Bangalore. Families looking for a temple visit as part of their Bangalore to Wayanad tour package usually schedule this for the last day.

Urbania Packages for the Bangalore to Wayanad Route

Four package structures cover almost every group on this route, all including the vehicle, fuel and a trained chauffeur, quoted garage to garage in writing.

Family Package

For mixed-age groups of eight to sixteen, most of what we carry on this route. The itinerary is built around what each part of the group can do: Banasura, Pookode, Kuruva and a safari for everyone, with Edakkal and Chembra as options. Standing headroom and full recliners suit elderly travellers, and we confirm narrow resort approaches before you travel.

Trekking and Adventure Package

For groups going specifically for Chembra, Edakkal and the falls. Early starts, the vehicle waiting at trailheads, and a schedule built around the forest permit office opening rather than breakfast. Chembra permits carry a daily cap and go early in season, so plan a spare day in case the quota is full or conditions close the trek.

Corporate Package

Wayanad resorts are a favoured Bangalore offsite destination. Twelve or thirteen seater Urbania with full recliners and per-seat charging, plus GST invoicing, a proforma invoice for purchase-order approval and GPS visibility for the organiser, with the Kerala permit handled and itemised. Thirty-day credit terms for registered accounts — see our corporate travels bangalore service.

Coorg and Wayanad Circuit

The best use of the corridor for a longer trip. Two nights in Coorg, then across via Kutta and Tholpetty into northern Wayanad for two more, basing at Mananthavady for Kuruva and Thirunelli. A genuinely varied five days, and the entry through Nagarhole is among the most beautiful drives in South India.

How to Book a Force Urbania in Bangalore

Booking a Force Urbania in Bangalore takes under five minutes. Follow these four steps.

Step 1: Contact Tejas Travels

●        Call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773, or email info@tejastravels.com — available 24 hours.

●        Share your travel dates, pickup location, group size and variant: 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 15 or 16 seater.

●        Give us the resort or property name, since Wayanad accommodation is scattered across three towns and many approach roads are narrow.

●        Tell us the ages and mobility in the group, and whether Chembra or Edakkal are fixed in your plan, so the itinerary is built around what people can actually do.

Step 2: Receive Your Written Quote

●        Within 2 hours of your enquiry we send a written quote by WhatsApp or email.

●        It itemises every charge: hire rate, driver allowance, night halt charges, tolls and the Kerala interstate permit at actuals.

●        No verbal-only pricing — everything is in writing before you confirm.

●        For corporate bookings, a proforma invoice can be issued at this stage.

●        To compare the 13-seater against the 15-seater, or a tempo traveller against the Urbania, request both quotes together.

Step 3: Confirm Your Booking and Pay Advance

●        Review the written quote and confirm by WhatsApp or phone.

●        A 20 per cent advance of the total fare confirms the booking and guarantees the specific Urbania variant on your dates.

●        On confirmation we arrange the Kerala permit and reconfirm the current Bandipur timings for your date.

●        Pay by UPI, NEFT, IMPS, RTGS or card. Advance receipt within 30 minutes.

●        Book ahead for long weekends, Onam and the December to January period, when Wayanad resorts and our fleet both fill.

Step 4: Your Chauffeur and Urbania Arrive Early

●        Your chauffeur reaches the pickup point 15 minutes before scheduled departure, including on a 5 am start.

●        The Urbania is deep-cleaned, fuelled and ready, and the chauffeur calls 30 minutes before arrival.

●        He carries the permit papers and plans the run so the reserve is cleared inside the permitted window.

●        During the trip he handles routing, tolls, forest gate timings and drop points at trailheads and resorts.

●        At trip end the balance is settled after the advance; extra kilometres or hours are billed at the pre-agreed rate.

Quick booking: WhatsApp +91 9980277773 with your dates, group size and resort name. Written quote in 2 hours.

Payment Methods

We accept all major payment methods. Given the limited fleet, the advance secures your specific variant and dates.

●        UPI: Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM UPI. Fastest method, instant confirmation, recommended for advances.

●        Bank transfer: NEFT, IMPS, RTGS. For corporate clients and advances above Rs 10,000. IMPS instant, NEFT up to 2 hours.

●        Credit or debit card: Visa, Mastercard, RuPay via payment link. Valid for advance and full payment.

●        Net banking: All major Indian banks, link sent by WhatsApp or email.

●        Cash: Balance accepted at trip end with receipt. The advance must be digital for booking confirmation.

●        Corporate credit: 30-day terms for registered accounts, invoice within 24 hours of trip completion.

Fleet note: the Urbania fleet is small compared with standard tempo travellers and books out well in advance for long weekends, Onam and the December to January period.

Cancellation Policy

A tiered policy, communicated in writing at booking confirmation.

●        More than 72 hours before departure: no charge; 100 per cent of the advance refunded within 5 to 7 working days.

●        48 to 72 hours before departure: 10 per cent of the total trip fare; advance refunded less that deduction.

●        24 to 48 hours before departure: 25 per cent of the total trip fare; advance refunded less that deduction.

●        12 to 24 hours before departure: 50 per cent of the total trip fare; advance refunded less that deduction.

●        Less than 12 hours before departure: 75 per cent of the total trip fare; minimal or no refund depending on trip value.

●        No-show, vehicle deployed and group absent: 100 per cent of the total trip fare. No refund.

●        Cancellation by Tejas Travels (breakdown, force majeure): no charge; 100 per cent refunded within 2 working days or an equivalent substitute offered.

Special Conditions

●        Trek and safari closures: Chembra permits carry a daily cap and the trek closes in fire-risk periods and heavy monsoon. Safari slots are Forest Department controlled. A closed trek or an exhausted quota is not grounds for cancelling the vehicle booking, and we reshape the day instead.

●        Road and reserve closures: if the Bandipur route or the Kerala border is closed on your date and no viable alternative exists, that is force majeure. Reschedule at no penalty or cancel with a full refund.

●        Multi-day circuits: three-night and longer Wayanad and Coorg itineraries need minimum 5 days notice for a full refund.

●        Peak dates: long weekends, Onam and the December to January period need 48 hours notice for a full refund.

●        Force majeure: bandhs, road closures and monsoon landslides in the Western Ghats — 100 per cent refunded within 2 working days regardless of notice.

●        Modifications: date, seating and route changes with over 24 hours notice are accommodated at no penalty, subject to availability and permit reissue.

To cancel, call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773 with your booking reference. Confirmation within 2 hours.

●        Trip shortfall below the minimum kilometres: proportional credit, settled at trip end.

●        Billing error or overcharge: full overcharged amount, in 2 to 3 working days after verification.

●        Duplicate payment: full duplicate amount, in 2 to 3 working days after confirmation.

Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Wayanad Urbania

Approximately 280 km to Kalpetta via Mysore, Nanjangud and Gundlupet, then through Bandipur and across the Kerala border at Muthanga. Expect 6 to 7 hours including one halt and the reserve section. Sulthan Bathery is about 25 km short of Kalpetta, Mananthavady around 30 km beyond.

A Kerala interstate permit for the Karnataka-registered vehicle, checked at the Muthanga border. We arrange it and quote it upfront alongside toll estimates. Nothing is required from passengers at the border. Forest permits for treks and safaris are separate and are booked at the site.

Because the highway through Bandipur closes to through traffic at night to protect wildlife movement. The itinerary is planned so the vehicle clears the reserve inside the permitted daytime hours, which makes a 5:00 am departure a rule here rather than a preference. A late-afternoon start simply does not work.

Genuinely strenuous: roughly a kilometre of uphill walking from the vehicle drop, then steep rock-cut steps and metal stairways to the petroglyph chamber. Not suitable for anyone with knee or heart trouble, and the most demanding stop in the district. Go early, and check operating days before building a plan around it.

Yes. Entry runs on a forest permit with a daily cap, issued at the forest office and often exhausted early in season, and the trek takes a couple of hours each way to the heart-shaped lake. It closes in fire-risk periods and heavy monsoon. Tell us if it is fixed in your plan and build a spare day in, because we cannot guarantee the quota.

Garage to garage with fuel included: Rs 40 per km. Driver allowance is Rs 600 per day plus night halt charges on multi-day trips, with tolls and the Kerala permit at actuals. Forest permits, trek fees, safari and boat charges are paid at the site.

Yes, provided the itinerary is built for them. Banasura Sagar, Pookode Lake, Kuruva Island in season, Thirunelli and the sanctuary safaris are all comfortable, since safaris are done seated in a Forest Department vehicle. Edakkal and Chembra are not. We routinely split a group so the fit half treks while the vehicle takes everyone else elsewhere, reuniting for lunch.

October to May. The June to September monsoon is spectacular but Kuruva Island closes, the treks become slippery and unsafe, waterfall access is restricted and landslide risk rises across the district. If your dates fall in monsoon we will still take you, but the itinerary shifts towards the easy, low-lying attractions.

More than 72 hours ahead: no charge, full advance refunded in 5 to 7 working days. Between 48 and 72 hours the charge is 10 per cent, 24 to 48 hours 25 per cent, 12 to 24 hours 50 per cent, under 12 hours 75 per cent. Three-night and longer circuits need 5 days notice. A closed trek or exhausted permit quota is not grounds for cancelling the vehicle booking; we reshape the day instead.

No. Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passengers insurance by the company. Our vehicles carry the statutory commercial vehicle insurance required under Indian motor law, chauffeurs are police verified and PSV licensed, and the fleet is serviced at authorised Force Motors centres. Groups wanting personal accident cover should arrange it separately, which is worth considering if trekking is on your itinerary.
