BR Hills and the Biligiriranga Temple
The Biligiriranga Hills rise to around 1,800 metres and form the BRT Tiger Reserve, a biologically significant range because it forms the bridge between the Western and Eastern Ghats. At the top stands the Biligiri Ranganathaswamy temple, a hill shrine with a long association with the Soliga community who have lived in these forests for generations. Nearby is Dodda Sampige Mara, an enormous ancient champak tree revered by the Soligas and estimated to be many centuries old. Visit for the combination of forest, temple and genuine remoteness. The approach is a winding ghat road through the reserve, and safari slots are booked separately through the forest department.

Bangalore
Departure Point
Your journey to Ooty begins from Bangalore, the gateway to South India's most beloved hill stations. Pick-up is available from any part of the city — Koramangala, Electronic City, Whitefield, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Marathahalli, or Majestic. The most common route out of Bangalore takes you onto NH275, the six-lane Mysore Expressway, which is one of the smoothest and best-maintained national highways in Karnataka. An early departure between 5 AM and 6 AM is strongly advised to clear Bangalore city limits before peak traffic begins. The first 50 km on the expressway are fast, comfortable, and lightly trafficked in the early hours, setting a pleasant tone for the journey ahead. Our drivers are experienced in choosing the optimal departure window and route based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring that the first stretch of your Bangalore to Ooty road trip is efficient, calm, and enjoyable from the very first kilometre.

Ramanagara
Silk Town of Karnataka
The route leaves Bangalore southwest on the Mysore expressway, and the first stretch is six-lane access-controlled highway that has transformed this drive - what used to be a slow crawl through a string of towns is now a fast, clean run. Our drivers reach the pickup point fifteen minutes early and aim to be on the expressway before 7:00 AM, since the approach roads build up faster than the highway itself. Ramanagara is the largest silk cocoon market in Asia and the centre of Karnataka sericulture, and the granite hills flanking the road here are instantly recognisable to anyone who has seen Sholay, which was filmed among them. Ramadevarabetta, one of those hills, is now a vulture sanctuary protecting one of the few remaining long-billed vulture populations in the state. The expressway bypasses the town, so this is scenery rather than a stop, but the hills are worth looking up from your phone for.

Channapatna
Toy Town of Karnataka
Fifteen kilometres further, and the most characterful stop on the entire route. Channapatna has been making lacquered wooden toys for more than two centuries, in a tradition generally traced to Tipu Sultan, who is said to have invited Persian artisans to train local craftsmen. The toys are turned on hand lathes from ivory-wood and coloured with natural vegetable dyes, which is why they are safe for small children to chew on, and the craft now carries a GI tag. The workshops and showrooms cluster along the old highway through the town, and a stop of twenty to thirty minutes lets you watch the lathes working and buy directly. It is the single most popular halt on the Bangalore to Mysore corridor for families, and it is genuinely worth the detour off the expressway. Tell us at booking if you want it built in, and our drivers know which workshops actually let visitors watch rather than simply selling.

Mandya
Sugar Bowl of Karnataka
Maddur is a name that means one thing to anyone who has driven this road: the Maddur vada, a flat, crisp onion and semolina fritter sold hot at the railway station and the highway hotels, and among the most recognisable regional snacks in Karnataka. The Narasimhaswamy temple in the town is old and worth a look for travellers with time. Beyond Maddur the landscape becomes unmistakably Cauvery country - sugarcane to the horizon, irrigation channels, and the mills that gave Mandya its name as the sugar bowl of Karnataka. This district was transformed by the Krishna Raja Sagara dam and the canal network that followed, and the prosperity and the politics of the region both flow from it. For most travellers Mandya passes as a bypass, and the run through here is fast.

Mysore
City of Palaces
Srirangapatna sits on an island in the Cauvery and was the capital of Tipu Sultan, falling to the British in 1799 in a siege that decided the future of southern India. The Ranganathaswamy temple is among the most important Vaishnavite shrines in Karnataka, the Daria Daulat Bagh summer palace holds remarkable painted murals, and the Gumbaz mausoleum stands a short distance away. It is a two-hour stop to do properly and a forty-minute one to do quickly, and it is directly on the route. Mysore follows, and for most Chamarajanagar bookings it is the natural halt rather than the destination - the choice of food is wide and this is the last major city before the district. Travellers with time can build in the Palace or Chamundi Hills, though doing so effectively turns a Chamarajanagar trip into a two-day itinerary. Beyond Mysore the road narrows and the character changes as the route turns south toward Nanjangud.

Nanjangud
Dakshina Kashi, the Kashi of the South
Twenty-five kilometres south of Mysore on the banks of the Kapila river, Nanjangud is one of the most significant Shaiva pilgrimage centres in Karnataka. The Srikanteshwara temple is very large, with a long history of patronage under the Hoysalas, the Vijayanagara rulers and the Mysore Wodeyars, and its scale surprises people who arrive expecting a small-town shrine. The town is called Dakshina Kashi because of the temple standing on a river, in deliberate parallel with Varanasi, and the Rathotsava chariot festival here draws very large crowds. Nanjangud is also known for a locally famous variety of banana and, less romantically, as the site of a substantial pharmaceutical and manufacturing belt. For a Chamarajanagar booking this is the last easy stop, and forty-five minutes at the temple fits comfortably into the day.

Chamarajanagar
Elephant Country of Karnataka
The final forty kilometres run south through farmland with the Biligiriranga range building on the eastern horizon and the Nilgiri foothills visible to the southwest on a clear day. The land is drier here than the Cauvery belt behind, and the shift from irrigated sugarcane to dryland crops is noticeable within twenty minutes. Chamarajanagar town is a working district headquarters named after Chamaraja Wodeyar of Mysore, whose son Mummadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar was born here and built the Chamarajeshwara temple in his memory. For most travellers the town is the pivot rather than the destination: BR Hills lies to the east, MM Hills further east again, Bandipur and Gopalaswamy Betta to the west, and Bharachukki to the north. Our driver takes you to the confirmed address and assists with luggage, and this is the last proper service stop before any of the forest roads - fuel up here rather than assuming there will be a pump further on, because there generally will not be.

Urbania Packages for Every Group
Every quotation is built around what the group actually needs rather than picked off a fixed menu. The tiers below describe how we normally structure bangalore to chamarajanagar urbania enquiries on this corridor.
Family and Wildlife Urbania Package
The dominant booking here — extended families heading for Bandipur or BR Hills, usually across two or three days with a resort or Jungle Lodges stay. The 12 and 13 seater are the usual choice, and we plan these itineraries around the fixed points rather than around distance: the safari slot you have booked, the Gopalaswamy Betta bus timings, and the Bandipur gate closure. A Channapatna toy stop on the return leg is the most requested addition on family bookings and it is worth building in. Drivers assigned to wildlife itineraries are selected for comfort with pre-dawn starts and long stationary waits, and for keeping the cabin cool and available at check posts. Our 13 seater urbania rent bangalore configuration is the most requested size on this route.
Corporate Urbania Package
For team outings and offsites at the resort properties around Bandipur and BR Hills, which have become a common alternative to the Coorg and Chikmagalur circuit. Documentation is handled up front: GST invoicing, a Proforma Invoice at quotation stage for purchase-order approval, monthly consolidated billing and thirty-day credit terms for signed accounts. On this route we build the return leg around the Bandipur gate timings explicitly, because a corporate group that lingers over lunch can very easily find itself facing a nine-hour wait at a forest gate — and unlike a private family, a corporate group usually has flights and Monday meetings behind it. Our corporate travels bangalore desk handles standing accounts and repeat offsite bookings.
Luxury and VIP Urbania Package
For senior family groups, guest hosting and travellers heading to the premium lodges in the district. This tier draws on the 15, 16 and 17 seater end of the fleet with the full recliner and dual-zone specification, a chauffeur in formal attire where the occasion calls for it, and vehicle allocation confirmed by registration number rather than by class. On a route that combines expressway running with forest ghat approaches, suspension and cabin quality are functional considerations rather than cosmetic ones, and the pre-dawn starts that wildlife itineraries demand are considerably easier to face in a vehicle you can sleep in. See the luxury urbania rental bangalore fleet and the 16 seater urbania configuration. For MM Hills legs we will still recommend stepping down a size.
Fare Inclusions, Exclusions and Advance Payment
Every Tejas Tours and Travels quotation for the Bangalore to Chamarajanagar Urbania corridor is issued in writing with the structure below. Nothing outside this list is charged, and everything inside it is stated before you confirm.
Advance payment: 20 percent of the total fare is payable in advance to confirm the booking.
Included in the Quoted Fare
• Base fare and fuel charges
• Driver allowance
Not Included in the Quoted Fare
• Toll and parking charges
• Interstate tax
• Driver bata after 9:45 PM, charged extra
• Final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage
• GST
Insurance note: Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passenger insurance. Passengers are advised to arrange their own travel cover where required. Our vehicles carry the statutory motor insurance required under law and our drivers hold valid commercial licences.
Three points are specific to this district. First, safari fees, forest entry charges, the Gopalaswamy Betta bus fare and temple donations are all paid on site and sit outside the vehicle fare — we will tell you the expected order of cost, but they are not ours to bill and we add no margin to them. Second, Chamarajanagar is within Karnataka so no interstate permit arises, though one applies the moment an itinerary continues into Tamil Nadu for Ooty or Kerala for Wayanad, and we arrange it in advance where that is the plan. Third, the driver bata clause after 9:45 PM is worth reading carefully here for an unusual reason: if the Bandipur gate closure forces a delayed departure, the late return is a consequence of forest timings rather than anything either party controls, and we would far rather plan the day to avoid it than argue about it afterwards.

What Our Customers Say About Our Urbania Services in Bangalore
Why Choose Tejas Tours and Travels?
Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Chamarajanagar Urbania
The bangalore to chamarajanagar distance is around 210 km via NH 275 through Ramanagara, Channapatna, Maddur, Mandya and Mysore, then south through Nanjangud, covered in 4 to 4 hours 30 minutes with one halt. The direct route via Kanakapura, Malavalli and Kollegal is shorter at roughly 180 km but narrower and slower, so the running time works out similar. We use the Mysore route by default and the Kanakapura route for itineraries heading straight to MM Hills or Bharachukki.
Fares around Rs 17,500. The final figure depends on vehicle class, number of days and total kilometres run. Since billing is garage to garage on actual kilometres and hours, we issue a written itemised quote within 2 hours rather than a verbal estimate.
Our Urbania fleet runs from 8 up to 17 seats, and as a working rule you should book one seat more than your headcount so nobody shares space with the luggage. Groups of eight to ten take the 9 or 10 seater, eleven to thirteen the 13 seater, and fourteen to seventeen the 15, 16 or 17 seater. Above seventeen we move you to a minibus rather than sending two vehicles. We do not operate a sleeper bus service. For overnight group travel on this corridor we recommend either a Volvo or Benz seater coach from our 27 to 50 seater fleet, or an Urbania with a night halt.
No, and neither can any other private vehicle. Everyone is stopped at the forest check post at the base and continues to the summit by forest department or KSRTC bus, with reported fares of a few tens of rupees per person. Visiting hours are restricted for wildlife reasons, commonly cited as around 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, and nobody stays on the hill after closing because of elephant movement. Queues build at weekends, so arrive early. Cameras and plastic items are often not permitted at the temple, so leave them in the vehicle — your driver waits at the check post throughout.
The BR Hills ghat road is fine for any size in our Urbania range, and the parabolic suspension makes that climb noticeably more comfortable than a standard van would. MM Hills is a different proposition. Seventy-seven hairpin bends on a narrow forest road is manageable but tight in a 16 or 17 seater, and for that leg specifically we recommend the 12 or 13 seater. If your itinerary includes MM Hills we will raise this at the quotation stage rather than letting you discover it on the third hairpin, and where a group is too large we would rather split across two smaller vehicles than pretend the road is wider than it is.
Yes. The stretch of NH 766 through the reserve is closed to vehicles from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM, a restriction imposed after repeated wildlife deaths on the highway, with two-wheelers restricted from earlier in the evening. It matters most if you are continuing to Wayanad or Ooty — if you cannot clear the gates before 9:00 PM, you wait until 6:00 AM. There is no exception process and no arguing with it. Our drivers plan the day around the gate timings, and where a late arrival looks likely we restructure the itinerary rather than gambling on the clock.
No, and we would be cautious of any operator who claims they can guarantee one. Safaris run in fixed morning and afternoon slots operated by the forest department and Jungle Lodges, in their own vehicles, with limited capacity, and the booking is yours to make through their channels. What we do is arrange transport to and from the safari assembly point and build the day around the slot you already hold, including the pre-dawn starts that morning safaris require. Tell us your slot time at the quotation stage and the whole itinerary is planned backwards from it.
A 20 percent advance on the total fare confirms your booking and holds the specific vehicle for your date. The advance receipt is issued within 30 minutes, and your confirmation includes the driver name, mobile number, vehicle registration, departure time and the full billing breakdown in writing. For long weekends and the peak wildlife season a higher advance may be requested, since Urbania availability on this corridor tightens well before the date.
Included: base fare, fuel charges and driver allowance. Not included: toll and parking, interstate tax, driver bata after 9:45 PM, and GST. The final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage. Safari fees, forest entry charges, the Gopalaswamy Betta bus fare and temple donations are all paid on site and sit outside the fare. Chamarajanagar is within Karnataka so no interstate permit arises, though one applies the moment the itinerary continues into Tamil Nadu for Ooty or Kerala for Wayanad, and we arrange it in advance where that is the plan.
No. Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passenger insurance. Our vehicles carry the statutory motor insurance required under law and our drivers hold valid commercial licences, but passengers wanting personal travel cover should arrange it independently. For school and college nature excursions a group travel policy is usually inexpensive and is often required by the institution in any case.
October to February gives comfortable weather across all the sites. For Bandipur and BR Hills specifically, the drier months from March to May often produce better wildlife sightings as animals concentrate around water, though the heat is significant and it is a genuine trade-off rather than a clear win. Bharachukki Falls is at its best from August to January and thins considerably by March. The monsoon greens everything spectacularly, but forest roads and the MM Hills approach are hardest then and some access can be restricted at short notice.
