Lepakshi and the Hanging Pillar
Around fifteen kilometres off the highway just across the Andhra border, the Veerabhadra temple at Lepakshi is one of the finest sixteenth-century Vijayanagara sites anywhere. Its celebrated hanging pillar rests fractionally clear of the floor - a cloth can be passed beneath it - and the ceilings carry the largest surviving mural on a single panel in India, showing the fourteen incarnations of Shiva in vegetable dye. Outside stands a monolithic Nandi carved from a single granite boulder, among the largest in the country. Visit in the morning. Allow ninety minutes for the temple and the Nandi, and it is easily the best short detour on any route out of Bangalore.

Bangalore
Departure Point
Your journey to Ooty begins from Bangalore, the gateway to South India's most beloved hill stations. Pick-up is available from any part of the city — Koramangala, Electronic City, Whitefield, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Marathahalli, or Majestic. The most common route out of Bangalore takes you onto NH275, the six-lane Mysore Expressway, which is one of the smoothest and best-maintained national highways in Karnataka. An early departure between 5 AM and 6 AM is strongly advised to clear Bangalore city limits before peak traffic begins. The first 50 km on the expressway are fast, comfortable, and lightly trafficked in the early hours, setting a pleasant tone for the journey ahead. Our drivers are experienced in choosing the optimal departure window and route based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring that the first stretch of your Bangalore to Ooty road trip is efficient, calm, and enjoyable from the very first kilometre.
Chikkaballapur
Gateway to Nandi Hills
This is the easiest exit from Bangalore of any route we operate. NH 44 runs north past the international airport on six lanes from the start, and the airport traffic thins out beyond Devanahalli. Our drivers aim to be past the airport before 6:15 AM on a business departure, though this route is forgiving in a way most are not - there is no gate to make and no ghat to clear in daylight. Devanahalli is worth knowing about even without stopping: Tipu Sultan was born in the fort here in 1751 and the walls and bastions still stand a short distance off the highway, largely ignored by the traffic passing the airport. Chikkaballapur follows with the Nandi Hills rising to the west - the range where the Arkavathi, Palar, Ponnaiyar, Papagni and Chitravathi all rise, which is an unusual thing for one hill to manage.

Kodikonda
Border Town of the Deccan
Fifty kilometres of fast divided highway across increasingly dry country - this is the transition from the Karnataka plateau into Rayalaseema, and the landscape thins visibly. Bagepalli is the last Karnataka town, a market centre with little to detain a traveller, and the Andhra Pradesh border follows at Kodikonda where the checkpost and toll plaza sit. The interstate permit is presented here, arranged by us in advance so it is a formality rather than a delay. For most travellers the notable thing about this stretch is how quick it is - the highway is excellent, the traffic is moderate, and a hundred and ten kilometres passes in not much over an hour. It is also where the Lepakshi turn comes up, a short distance beyond the border.
Penukonda
Second Capital of Vijayanagara
The Lepakshi turn is around fifteen kilometres off the highway and it is the single best detour available on any road out of Bangalore. The Veerabhadra temple holds the hanging pillar, the great ceiling murals and, outside, a monolithic Nandi carved from one boulder. Ninety minutes covers it properly, and on a leisure trip it should be in the plan rather than considered. Penukonda comes next, and it is two things at once. Historically it is the fortress the Vijayanagara empire retreated to after Hampi fell, with the Gagan Mahal and the hill fortifications still standing. Commercially it is now the site of a major automobile plant and the supplier belt around it, which is why a share of our bookings on this route stop here rather than continuing. For business travellers this is the destination, at around 145 kilometres and two and a half hours from Bangalore.

Anantapur
Groundnut Capital of India
Sixty kilometres of continuing excellent highway through open, dry country. This is groundnut land - the district produces more of the crop than anywhere in India - and in season the fields and the drying yards along the road make that obvious. The Puttaparthi turn comes off this stretch to the east, around forty kilometres to the ashram town. Anantapur itself is a working district headquarters rather than a tourist city: an administrative and market centre in one of the driest parts of the country, built around the Anantasagaram tank that gave it its name. It has the services a traveller needs - fuel, hotels, hospitals, food - and it is the practical base for the district, which is where the real interest lies. Our driver takes you to the confirmed address and assists with luggage. A 6:00 AM departure puts most travellers in Anantapur by around 9:30 AM.

Minibus Packages from Bangalore to Anantapur
Four package shapes cover almost every enquiry we take for this route. All are quoted garage to garage on actual kilometres and hours, with the Andhra Pradesh permit itemised separately.
Corporate Package
A large share of our Anantapur bookings, driven by the automotive plant near Penukonda, its supplier network and the solar installations across the district. A 20 to 24 seater minibus with pushback seating, a GST-compliant invoice, a Proforma Invoice issued in advance for purchase-order approval, and 30-day credit terms for registered corporate accounts. Multi-point pickups across Electronic City, Whitefield, Manyata and Bellandur on one trip sheet. The vehicle stays with the team through the working day rather than being released, and same-day returns are the most common pattern on this route. Where a team exceeds twenty-four we pair a minibus with a tempo traveller under one coordinator. Regular clients route these through our corporate travel desk.
Family and Heritage Package
A 12 to 18 seater minibus for the district circuit: Lepakshi and Penukonda on day one, Puttaparthi or Tadipatri on day two, with Anantapur as the base. We plan outdoor stops for the early morning because the forts and temples here have almost no shade and the district is one of the hottest in the country outside the winter months. For groups with elderly members we recommend skipping Gooty Fort, which involves a steep hour-long climb, and building the days around Lepakshi, the Penukonda lower town and Dharmavaram instead.
Budget Group Package
For college groups, friend circles and cost-conscious family trips. A 12 to 20 seater non-AC or standard AC minibus at the lowest per-kilometre rate in our range. Anantapur is the cheapest of our Andhra destinations to reach and the day-trip version to Lepakshi and Penukonda is one of the best-value group outings from Bangalore, since the highway is fast and the sites charge little or nothing to enter. This is where most mini bus rental in bangalore price enquiries land, and we quote it with the kilometre rate stated openly.
Luxury Package
Executive minibus with reclining seats, better suspension, curtains and a music system, or an upgrade to a Force Urbania for 13 to 17 passengers who want the highest comfort tier in this size class. On a route where the driving is easy but the destination heat is not, the comfort upgrade is mostly about the vehicle being a genuinely pleasant place to retreat to between stops. Suited to senior management groups, visiting delegations and families with elderly travellers.
Our Fleet at Tejas Tours and Travels
We operate and maintain the following vehicle categories, all available for the Anantapur route and every other outstation destination from Bangalore.
• Buses: 27 to 50 seater, including Volvo and Benz coaches for large group and corporate movements. The highway quality on this route makes a coach a reasonable option for larger teams.
• Minibus: 12 to 24 seater, the recommended size class for this route.
• Tempo Traveller: 8 to 18 seater for mid-size groups.
• Force Urbania: 13 to 17 seater luxury van.

Please note that we do not operate a sleeper bus service. For overnight group travel we deploy seater coaches and minibuses with scheduled rest halts, and arrange hotel accommodation along the route where the itinerary requires it. On this route most groups do not need an overnight at all, since a same-day return is comfortable.

What Our Customers Say About Our Minibus Services in Bangalore
Why Choose Tejas Tours and Travels?
Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Anantapur Minibus
About 200 kilometres one way straight up NH-44 through Devanahalli, Chikkaballapur, Bagepalli and Penukonda. A minibus takes 3 hours 30 minutes to 4 hours with one halt. The highway is four-lane the whole way with no ghat sections and no forest restrictions, which makes this the easiest drive of our Andhra routes.
Yes, comfortably, which sets it apart from most destinations at this distance. Leaving at 6:00 am puts a group in Anantapur before 10:15 am with the full day available and an easy four-hour return. A day trip works well for Lepakshi and Penukonda together, or for a plant visit. Two days is better if you want Puttaparthi, Tadipatri or Thimmamma Marrimanu as well.
Yes, one. Andhra Pradesh is entered at the Kodikonda checkpost about 120 kilometres in, and a commercial vehicle needs a valid interstate permit with the associated tax paid. We arrange it as part of the booking and itemise it separately in the written quote, along with toll, parking and GST, all of which sit outside the base fare.
A same-day starts from around Rs 13,720. The Andhra Pradesh permit, toll, parking, driver night halt where applicable and GST are billed separately. The final rental is calculated garage to garage on total kilometres and hours, so adding Puttaparthi or Thimmamma Marrimanu adjusts the figure.
Yes, and for many groups that is the better trip. Lepakshi is about 120 kilometres from Bangalore, fifteen of them off the highway, so a group can be there in under three hours, spend the morning at the temple and the Nandi, add Penukonda in the afternoon, and be home for dinner. We quote that as its own day package.
Yes, and it is a regular booking on this route given the automotive plant near Penukonda and the solar installations across the district. We issue a Proforma Invoice for purchase-order approval and a GST-compliant invoice afterwards, run multi-point tech park pickups on one trip sheet, and keep the vehicle with the team through the day. Share the gate and reporting time at booking, since site security takes longer than most people allow.
November to February. Anantapur is among the driest districts in India and temperatures from March to June are severe, which matters because most of the sightseeing is at open forts and temples with no shade. If you must travel in summer, plan outdoor stops for early morning, use the middle of the day for the vehicle or an indoor stop, and carry plenty of water.
Mostly yes, with one exception. Lepakshi, the Penukonda lower town, Dharmavaram and the Tadipatri temples are all flat or close to it and involve short walks from the vehicle. Gooty Fort is the exception, with a steep climb of about an hour through fifteen gateways and no shade, and it should be skipped for older travellers. The heat needs more planning than the walking does.
No. Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passenger insurance as part of the booking. Our vehicles carry the statutory commercial vehicle insurance required by law, but personal travel insurance for passengers needs to be arranged independently. Groups travelling under a corporate or school policy should confirm their own coverage before departure.
We do not operate sleeper buses. For overnight and multi-day itineraries we deploy seater coaches and minibuses with scheduled rest halts, and arrange hotel accommodation along the route where the itinerary calls for it. On this route most groups do not need an overnight at all, and where one is wanted, Anantapur town has the widest hotel range in the district.
