The ashram, whose name means Abode of Highest Peace, was established in 1950 and remains the headquarters of the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust. Sai Kulwant Hall is the main assembly space and houses the Mahasamadhi, and darshan and bhajan sessions run morning and evening. Visitors are asked to dress modestly, observe silence in the prayer areas, and respect restrictions on photography and mobile phones. Check the current session timings before you plan your departure, as they shift seasonally and during festivals.

Bangalore
Departure Point
Your journey to Ooty begins from Bangalore, the gateway to South India's most beloved hill stations. Pick-up is available from any part of the city — Koramangala, Electronic City, Whitefield, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Marathahalli, or Majestic. The most common route out of Bangalore takes you onto NH275, the six-lane Mysore Expressway, which is one of the smoothest and best-maintained national highways in Karnataka. An early departure between 5 AM and 6 AM is strongly advised to clear Bangalore city limits before peak traffic begins. The first 50 km on the expressway are fast, comfortable, and lightly trafficked in the early hours, setting a pleasant tone for the journey ahead. Our drivers are experienced in choosing the optimal departure window and route based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring that the first stretch of your Bangalore to Ooty road trip is efficient, calm, and enjoyable from the very first kilometre.
Chikkaballapur and Nandi Hills
Source of the Chitravathi
Nandi Hills rises to the west, one of the best-known sunrise points in South India and the summer retreat of Tipu Sultan. It is also a watershed: five rivers are said to rise here, and one of them is the Chitravathi, the same river that runs below Puttaparthi. There is a pleasing symmetry in following it upstream to its destination. Chikkaballapur town on the highway has the most reliable breakfast stops on the route, with idli, vada and filter coffee from around six.

Lepakshi
The Hanging Pillar Temple
Roughly fifteen kilometres off the highway near Hindupur, Lepakshi is the finest detour on this route and adds barely an hour. The sixteenth-century Veerabhadra temple holds the celebrated hanging pillar, which clears the floor by a fraction and has puzzled visitors for four centuries, along with some of the best surviving Vijayanagara mural painting anywhere. Outside sits the enormous monolithic Nandi, carved from a single granite boulder and the largest of its kind in India. The name comes from the Ramayana - Le Pakshi, rise, O bird, spoken to the wounded Jatayu.
Penukonda
Ghanagiri, the Vijayanagara Capital
Penukonda was the second capital of the Vijayanagara empire after the fall of Hampi, and the hill above the town, once called Ghanagiri, still carries the fort walls, watchtowers and temple ruins. The Gagan Mahal palace and the Sher Khan mosque sit in the town below, evidence of the layered rule the region passed through. Penukonda is also the last proper meal stop before Puttaparthi and has good highway restaurants. From here you leave NH44 for the final approach east.

Puttaparthi
The Village of Anthills
You arrive three and a half to four hours after leaving Bangalore. Puttaparthi is compact and walkable, and almost everything of interest sits within or immediately around Prasanthi Nilayam. It is a town shaped entirely by one institution - a university, a super-speciality hospital that treats patients free of charge, a planetarium and a small airport, all built by the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust. Since 2022 it has also been the headquarters of the new Sri Sathya Sai district. Accommodation ranges from ashram lodging to modest hotels on Main Road.

Bus Packages for the Bangalore to Puttaparthi Route
Corporate Package
Puttaparthi draws corporate groups for reasons that have little to do with pilgrimage — CSR programmes tied to the Super Speciality Hospital and the education trust, volunteer contingents, and employee-interest groups organising annual visits. The package includes GST invoicing, a Proforma Invoice for PO-based approval, a named driver retained for the full trip, and consolidated monthly billing for registered accounts. Where a company runs a recurring annual movement, we hold the booking pattern on file so the following year’s arrangement takes one call. Our corporate travels bangalore desk manages multi-vehicle contingents and MICE requirements end to end. Corporate bus rental bangalore enquiries above fifty passengers are handled as coordinated convoys with a single point of contact.
Family and Pilgrimage Package
The core booking on this corridor: Sai Samithis, bhajan mandalis and extended family groups travelling for darshan or for a specific festival. The package is built around ashram realities — a pre-dawn departure to reach Puttaparthi for the morning session, a driver who waits without pressure through a full day of programmes, and coordination with the ashram accommodation office where a group has sheds allocated. Groups travelling with elderly members should say so at enquiry; we allocate accordingly and plan the drop point as close to the gate as festival-period restrictions allow. Two-day itineraries adding Lepakshi and Penukonda are quoted as a single trip. Pilgrimage bus booking bangalore enquiries for the November and April festival periods should be raised weeks ahead.
Budget Package
For groups where cost per head decides the booking, and on this route that is a great many of them — community associations, temple groups and school contingents working to a fixed collection. Non-AC 27 to 41 seater buses, point to point, clean vehicle, verified driver, no frills. The bus rate per km in bangalore for the non-AC tier is our lowest, and across a 330 kilometre round trip with forty passengers the saving is meaningful. From October to February a non-AC coach is entirely comfortable on this route; from March to May it is not, and we will tell you so rather than take the booking quietly. The budget tier is about vehicle specification, never about maintenance, permits or driver vetting.
Luxury and Executive Package
Volvo and BharatBenz coaches with wider push-back seating, air suspension, superior sound insulation and a noticeably better ride on the state-road section past Kodikonda. On a pre-dawn departure with a full day of programmes at the other end, arriving rested is a practical benefit rather than an indulgence. Suited to senior groups, institutional delegations and any contingent where comfort forms part of the arrangement. Our volvo bus rental bangalore tier covers volvo luxury bus and bharatbenz bus rental bangalore requirements, and for smaller premium parties the force urbania rent bangalore option in 13 to 17 seater configuration runs the same route.
Our Vehicle Range in Bangalore
Our ac bus rental bangalore fleet covers 27, 32, 35, 41, 45 and 50 seater configurations, including Volvo and BharatBenz coaches. We run the full range of group vehicles from one Bangalore base, so a change in headcount after booking can usually be absorbed by moving category rather than restarting the process.
• Bus — 27 to 50 seater, including Volvo and Benz coaches, the core vehicle for this route
• Mini bus — 12 to 24 seater, AC and non-AC, for smaller contingents
• Tempo traveller — 8 to 18 seater, AC and non-AC
• Force Urbania — 13 to 17 seater luxury van
• Cars — 4 to 7 seater, from Etios, Dzire, Innova, Innova Crysta and Innova Hycross through Fortuner and Commuter, up to Corolla Altis, Camry, Audi A6, Audi Q7, BMW 5 Series, BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz E Class, Mercedes-Benz S Class and Rolls-Royce Ghost
Tejas Tours and Travels does not operate sleeper bus services. All our coaches are seated configuration with push-back seats. This is worth stating plainly for Puttaparthi in particular, since some groups ask about overnight sleeper travel to save a day — at roughly three hours, the route does not need it, and an early morning departure delivers the group in time for the first session with the whole day intact.
Billing Details — What Is Included and What Is Extra
We quote in writing before you book and the quote itemises everything, so nothing appears at trip end that you have not already approved. A 20 percent advance of the total fare confirms the booking.
Included in the Quoted Fare
• Base fare and fuel charges
• Driver allowance
Not Included — Billed Separately at Actuals
• Toll charges and parking fees
• Interstate tax and permit for the Karnataka to Andhra Pradesh crossing
• Additional driver bata after 9:45 PM
• GST as applicable
• Final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage
Garage-to-garage is the standard basis across organised group transport in Bangalore. The meter starts when the vehicle leaves our garage for your pickup and stops when it returns, and we build that into the written quote — so the figure you approve is the figure you pay. Two items deserve attention on this route specifically. The Andhra Pradesh interstate permit is unavoidable and is billed at actuals rather than absorbed, so it will appear as a separate line. And a same-day return that runs late through an evening programme can bring the coach back into Bangalore after 9:45 PM, which triggers the additional driver bata; we flag it at quote stage if your itinerary is likely to cross that line. For overnight bookings, driver night halt charges apply and are shown separately.
Tejas Tours and Travels does not provide passenger insurance cover. Passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance if required. Vehicle insurance and full statutory driver and vehicle compliance are maintained across the fleet.

What Our Customers Say About Our Bus Services in Bangalore
Why Choose Tejas Tours and Travels?
Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Puttaparthi Bus
The bangalore to puttaparthi distance by road is approximately 165 kilometres, running north on NH44 through Yelahanka, Devanahalli, Chikkaballapur and Bagepalli to the Kodikonda border post, then east on a state road via Kothacheruvu and Bukkapatnam. Allow 3 hours to 3 hours 45 minutes including halts. Departure time is the largest variable: leaving between 4:30 AM and 5:30 AM clears the Hebbal and airport stretch before it builds and puts the group in Puttaparthi for the morning session. A mid-morning start can add an hour or more.
Yes. Puttaparthi is in Andhra Pradesh, so a valid Karnataka to Andhra Pradesh interstate permit is mandatory and is verified at the Kodikonda check post shortly after Bagepalli. We arrange all permit documentation before departure, so you need do nothing. The permit is billed at actuals rather than absorbed into the base rate and appears as a separate line in your written quote. This is one of the practical arguments for a single bus over several cars — one permit rather than four.
Yes, and most groups do. A 5:00 AM departure reaches Puttaparthi by around 8:15 AM, which allows the morning session, the museum and planetarium, the hill climb and an afternoon programme before departing. Note that a late evening return can bring the coach back into Bangalore after 9:45 PM, which triggers the additional driver bata — we flag it at quote stage. Groups wanting Lepakshi or Penukonda as well should plan an overnight rather than compressing it, and for overnight bookings driver night halt charges apply.
Bus fares around Rs 12,860. The final figure depends on vehicle class, number of days and total kilometres run. Since billing is garage to garage on actual kilometres and hours, we issue a written itemised quote within 2 hours rather than a verbal estimate.
A 20 percent advance of the total fare confirms your booking and guarantees the specific bus on your travel date. The advance must be paid digitally by UPI, bank transfer or card. A receipt is issued within 30 minutes, and the balance is settled at trip end after deducting the advance. For large corporate bookings above Rs 50,000, and for festival dates, a higher advance may be required.
Our fleet covers 27, 32, 35, 41, 45 and 50 seater configurations in AC and non-AC, including Volvo and BharatBenz coaches. Book one size above your headcount if the group is carrying luggage for an overnight stay or travelling with elderly members. Below twenty-four passengers, a 12 to 24 seater mini bus is usually more economical; below eighteen, a tempo traveller. Above fifty, we run coordinated multi-coach convoys with a single point of contact.
Yes, but book early — this is the single most important scheduling point on the route. The November birthday celebrations, Mahasamadhi day in April, Guru Purnima, Shivaratri and Christmas fill the town completely, and coaches on those dates are committed weeks ahead. We also plan those itineraries differently: earlier departure, an alternative drop point where gate-area access is restricted, and a longer buffer on the return. Cancellation on festival dates requires a minimum 7-day notice for a full refund.
Yes, and most groups book it that way. The same vehicle and driver stay with you throughout, covering Puttaparthi itself and onward legs to Lepakshi, Penukonda, Bukkapatnam or Kadiri. Multi-day bookings are billed on total kilometres and hours with a per-day minimum, plus driver allowance and night halt charges. Note that coaches park at designated points in Puttaparthi rather than at the ashram gates, and during festival periods that parking may be some distance out — the driver confirms the arrangement on arrival. Share your day-wise itinerary at enquiry and we quote the whole trip as one number.
No. Tejas Tours and Travels does not operate sleeper bus services. All our coaches are seated configuration with push-back seats. Groups sometimes ask about overnight sleeper travel to save a day, but at roughly three hours this route does not need it — an early morning departure gets the group there in time for the first session with the whole day still ahead, which is both more comfortable and safer than overnight driving.
Tejas Tours and Travels does not provide passenger insurance cover. Passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance if they wish to be covered. All vehicles carry valid insurance and full statutory compliance, and every driver is verified with a commercial licence and route experience, but personal passenger cover is not part of the booking. To book, call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773 or email info@tejastravels.com with your travel date, Bangalore pickup location, group size and day-wise itinerary. A written itemised quote follows within 2 hours; confirm it, pay the 20 percent advance, and you receive driver details, vehicle registration and the full billing breakdown in writing. Our bus hire bangalore and bangalore bus booking enquiry lines are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
