Places to Visit in Moodabidri

Saavira Kambada Basadi

Saavira Kambada Basadi

The thousand-pillar basadi, properly the Tribhuvana Tilaka Chudamani, completed in 1430 and the finest Jain structure on this coast. The hall carries something close to a thousand granite pillars and the celebrated feature is that no two carry the same carving - figures, geometric bands, floral work, each column different. The tiered roof shows the coastal Tulu style rather than a Deccan one. A manastambha stands in front. Visit in the morning when the light comes into the hall properly; allow an hour and look up as well as around.

The Dhavala Manuscripts and the Jain Math

The Dhavala Manuscripts and the Jain Math

The Jain Math at Moodabidri holds palm-leaf manuscripts of the Dhavala, Jayadhavala and Mahadhavala - commentaries on the Shatkhandagama and among the most significant surviving texts of the Digambara tradition, preserved in this small town for centuries. They are religious property rather than museum exhibits and access is not casual; viewing is at the discretion of the math and generally restricted. Visit the math for the setting and ask respectfully rather than expecting a display. That these documents survived here at all is the point worth carrying away.

Chowta Palace

Chowta Palace

The eighteenth-century palace of the Chowta rulers, who governed this part of the coast, is a wooden structure of the kind Tulu Nadu built and very little of which survives - carved pillars, sloping tiled roofs, inner courtyards and a scale that is domestic rather than imperial. It houses a collection of artefacts and manuscripts. Visit for an hour; it is a rare surviving example of coastal Karnataka domestic architecture and it is a good deal quieter than the basadis. Access arrangements vary, so check locally on the day.

Karkala and the Chaturmukha Basadi

Karkala and the Chaturmukha Basadi

Twenty kilometres north, Karkala holds a forty-two foot Bahubali carved from a single granite block and raised on Gomatabetta in 1432, standing on a bare rock hill with the coastal plain and the Ghats in view. Below it sits the Chaturmukha Basadi of 1586, a four-faced structure with identical entrances on all sides and Tirthankara images facing each way - severe, symmetrical and unlike anything else in the region. Visit both in a morning. The climb to the statue is short and stepped, and the view alone justifies it.

Venur

Venur

Twenty-five kilometres east, Venur is a village on the Phalguni with a thirty-five foot Bahubali raised in 1604 by the Ajila chieftains - the smallest of the coastal monoliths and by a distance the least visited. There are also basadis and the remains of the Ajila palace. There is essentially nothing else there. Visit precisely for that: a six-hundred-year-old monolithic statue standing in a quiet village with no crowd, no queue and no commerce around it, which is an experience Shravanabelagola cannot offer.

Mangalore and the Coast

Mangalore and the Coast

Moodabidri sits thirty-five kilometres inland from Mangalore, which puts the whole coast within easy reach - Panambur and Tannirbhavi beaches, the Kadri Manjunath temple, the Sultan Battery watchtower and the confluence at Sasihithlu. Further north, Udupi has the Krishna temple and Malpe the boat to St Mary Islands, with their columnar basalt formations. Visit the coast as a second or third day. For many groups the Jain circuit and the coast together make the trip, and Moodabidri is well placed to be the base for both.

Urbania Packages for the Bangalore to Moodabidri Route

Corporate Package

Built for Bangalore technology and manufacturing teams travelling to the coast for plant visits, dealer meets, offsites and leadership retreats. Includes GST invoicing, a Proforma Invoice for PO-based approval, a named driver for the whole trip, and consolidated monthly billing for registered accounts. The same corporate urbania bangalore stays with your team across the Moodabidri, Karkala and Mangalore legs, with duty slips signed daily and reconciled against the final invoice. The Urbania is also the vehicle of choice when senior visitors are in the group, because arriving at a plant gate or a resort in one says something a standard van does not. Our corporate travels bangalore desk manages the arrangement end to end.

Family and Pilgrimage Package

The most common booking on this corridor. Moodabidri is rarely a standalone trip for families; it usually forms part of a four to six day coastal Karnataka circuit taking in Shravanabelagola, Moodabidri, Karkala, Venur, Dharmasthala, Kukke Subramanya and Udupi. The package is designed around temple timings and around the reality that a family will spend two hours inside a basadi complex and needs the vehicle waiting when they come out. Luggage capacity is the deciding advantage on a week-long trip, and recliner seats matter more than usual when senior members of the family are travelling. Drivers on this package know the darshan timings and the parking situation at each temple.

Luxury and Executive Package

The top configuration, using the 15 and 16 seater Urbania with the fuller recliner layout, or a smaller variant run at reduced capacity so every passenger has an empty seat beside them. Suited to milestone family trips, senior management travel, wedding party movement and any group that wants to stay together without compromising on comfort. Urbania for wedding bangalore bookings on this route are common, since Moodabidri and Mangalore weddings frequently draw guest parties from Bangalore who want a vehicle that looks right at the venue and a chauffeur in formal attire. Vehicle decoration is available on request. For larger guest movements, our volvo bus rental bangalore tier covers the same route.

Our Force Urbania Fleet in Bangalore

Our luxury urbania rental bangalore fleet covers 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 15 and 16 seater configurations, all with full recliner seats, dual-zone air conditioning, per-seat USB charging and GPS tracking. We run the complete range of group vehicles from the same Bangalore base, so if your headcount changes after booking we can usually move you up or down a category without restarting the process.

•             Force Urbania — 8 to 16 seater luxury van, the core vehicle for this route

•             Tempo traveller — 8 to 18 seater, a lower-cost alternative on the same corridor

•             Mini bus — 12 to 24 seater, for groups above Urbania capacity

•             Bus — 27 to 50 seater, including Volvo and Benz coaches for large movements

•             Cars — 4 to 7 seater, from Etios, Dzire, Innova, Innova Crysta, Innova Hycross and Fortuner through Corolla Altis, Camry, Audi A6, Audi Q7, BMW 5 Series, BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz E Class, Mercedes-Benz S Class and Rolls-Royce Ghost

Tejas Tours and Travels does not operate sleeper bus services. All our vehicles are seated configuration with recliner or push-back seats. On the Moodabidri route this is not a limitation, since the drive is comfortably done in daylight in a single day, and daylight is also when the Shiradi Ghat section is at its safest and its most worthwhile.

Billing Details — What Is Included and What Is Extra

We quote in writing before you book and the quote itemises everything, so there are no surprises at trip end. A 20 percent advance of the total fare confirms your booking.

Included in the Quoted Fare

•             Base fare and fuel charges

•             Driver allowance

Not Included — Billed Separately at Actuals

•             Toll charges and parking fees

•             Interstate tax, where a route crosses a state border

•             Additional driver bata after 9:45 PM

•             GST as applicable

•             Final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage

On the Bangalore to Moodabidri route specifically, no interstate tax applies, because the entire journey stays within Karnataka. That is a genuine cost advantage over comparable distances into Tamil Nadu or Kerala and it is worth factoring in when you compare quotes.

The garage-to-garage basis is standard across the organised group transport industry in Bangalore. The meter starts when the vehicle leaves our garage for your pickup point and ends when it returns. We build this into the written quote, so the number you approve is the number you pay.

Tejas Tours and Travels does not provide passenger insurance cover. Passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance if required. Vehicle insurance and full statutory driver and vehicle compliance are maintained across the fleet.

•             The quote itemises every charge:

Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Moodabidri Urbania

The bangalore to moodabidri distance by road is approximately 355 kilometres via NH75 through Nelamangala, Kunigal, Channarayapatna, Hassan, Sakleshpur, the Shiradi Ghat and Uppinangady, joining NH169 after Bantwal. Driving time is 7 hours 30 minutes to 8 hours 30 minutes depending on your departure time and how long you stop. Leaving Bangalore between 5:00 AM and 5:30 AM gets you past Nelamangala before traffic builds and puts you in Moodabidri by early afternoon with the rest of the day free.

Urbania fare starts around Rs 27,900. The final figure depends on vehicle class, number of days and total kilometres run. Since billing is garage to garage on actual kilometres and hours, we issue a written itemised quote within 2 hours rather than a verbal estimate.

A 20 percent advance of the total fare confirms your booking and guarantees the specific Urbania variant on your travel date. The advance must be paid digitally by UPI, bank transfer or card. A receipt is issued within 30 minutes, and the balance is settled at trip end after deducting the advance. Because the Urbania fleet is smaller than the standard tempo traveller fleet, early confirmation matters more on this vehicle than on others.

The drive itself is comfortably a single day, unlike longer southern routes. But Moodabidri, Karkala and Venur together deserve at least one full day on the ground, and most groups build a two or three night trip taking in Dharmasthala, Mangalore or Udupi as well. A same-day return of 710 kilometres is possible but means sixteen hours in the vehicle and no time at the destination, so we do not recommend it.

No. The entire route from Bangalore to Moodabidri stays inside Karnataka, so no interstate permit or border tax applies. This is a real cost saving compared with similar distances into Tamil Nadu or Kerala. All vehicle documentation, fitness, permit and driver compliance for Karnataka is maintained as standard across the fleet.

Our urbania rent per km bangalore fleet covers 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 15 and 16 seater configurations. The 8 to 10 seater variants use a 1/1 captain layout where every passenger has a window seat; the 12 to 16 seater variants use a 2/1 layout. Under eight passengers a car or SUV is usually more economical. Above sixteen, we operate 12 to 24 seater mini buses and 27 to 50 seater buses including Volvo and Benz coaches. We recommend the right size based on headcount and luggage when you enquire.

No. Tejas Tours and Travels does not operate sleeper bus services. All our vehicles are seated configuration with recliner or push-back seats. On this route that is not a drawback, since the drive works best in daylight. The Shiradi Ghat section is safer and considerably more scenic by day, and an early morning departure gets you there with the afternoon still available.

The ghat stays open through the monsoon in normal conditions, but June to September brings heavy rain, mist and reduced visibility, and occasional landslides or repair work can slow traffic significantly. We assign drivers with specific ghat experience to this corridor and monitor road conditions before departure. If the route is closed, an alternative via Charmadi Ghat is available, and any cancellation caused by a road closure attracts a full refund within 2 working days.

Yes, and this is how most groups book it. The same vehicle and driver stay with you throughout, covering the Saavira Kambada Basadi, Guru Basadi, Chowta Palace and Soans Farm in Moodabidri itself, plus Karkala, Venur, Dharmasthala, Kukke Subramanya, Mangalore and Udupi. Multi-day bookings are billed on total kilometres and hours with a per-day minimum plus driver allowance. Share your day-wise itinerary at enquiry stage and we quote the whole trip as one number.

Tejas Tours and Travels does not provide passenger insurance cover. Passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance if they wish to be covered. All vehicles carry valid insurance and full statutory compliance, and every driver is verified with a commercial licence and route experience, but personal passenger cover is not part of the booking. To book, call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773 or email info@tejastravels.com with your travel date, Bangalore pickup location, group size and day-wise itinerary. A written itemised quote follows within 2 hours; confirm it, pay the 20 percent advance, and you receive driver details, vehicle registration and the full billing breakdown in writing. Our force urbania rent bangalore enquiry lines are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
