Fort Kochi and the Chinese Fishing Nets
The cantilevered fishing nets along the Fort Kochi shoreline are the image of the city - large shore-operated lift nets, introduced by traders from the court of Kublai Khan by tradition, still worked by teams of fishermen and best watched at sunrise or sunset. Behind them, Fort Kochi is a walkable quarter of Portuguese, Dutch and British buildings, with St Francis Church, where Vasco da Gama was originally buried in 1524 before his remains were returned to Portugal - the oldest European church in India. Visit on foot over a half day. The quarter is small, the light in the late afternoon is exceptional, and vehicles are better parked at the edge than driven through the lanes.

Bangalore
Departure Point
Your journey to Ooty begins from Bangalore, the gateway to South India's most beloved hill stations. Pick-up is available from any part of the city — Koramangala, Electronic City, Whitefield, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Marathahalli, or Majestic. The most common route out of Bangalore takes you onto NH275, the six-lane Mysore Expressway, which is one of the smoothest and best-maintained national highways in Karnataka. An early departure between 5 AM and 6 AM is strongly advised to clear Bangalore city limits before peak traffic begins. The first 50 km on the expressway are fast, comfortable, and lightly trafficked in the early hours, setting a pleasant tone for the journey ahead. Our drivers are experienced in choosing the optimal departure window and route based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring that the first stretch of your Bangalore to Ooty road trip is efficient, calm, and enjoyable from the very first kilometre.

Krishnagiri
Mango Capital of Tamil Nadu
On a 550 km day the departure discipline matters more than anything else. Our drivers reach the pickup point fifteen minutes early and aim to be past Electronic City before 5:30 AM, because every fifteen minutes lost here is fifteen minutes of arriving in Kochi after dark. Passengers boarding at Whitefield or Marathahalli are routed via Sarjapur and Attibele to bypass Chandapura. The road opens out after the Attibele toll and the Tamil Nadu border. Hosur has an unusually temperate climate for the region and sits at the centre of a rose-growing and automotive belt. Beyond it the NH 44 is six-lane and excellent, and Krishnagiri arrives quickly - the mango capital of the state, with roadside Banganapalli and Neelam stalls from April to July and a ninth-century hill fort visible from the road. This is where Chennai-bound traffic peels off and the road south thins noticeably.

Salem
Steel City of Tamil Nadu
Dharmapuri is an agricultural district centre, and Hogenakkal lies forty-five kilometres east where the Cauvery drops through a gorge - a half-day detour that does not fit a Kochi run but is worth knowing about for a slower return. Thoppur is the one demanding section of this route. The highway climbs steeply between Dharmapuri and Salem, and although four-laned throughout, the gradient is severe enough that loaded trucks slow to walking pace and lane discipline suffers. Our drivers hold back rather than joining in. Beyond it the road opens out into Salem, built on iron ore and mango orchards, which has the best highway restaurants of the whole journey - proper parking, clean facilities, quick service. This is the natural breakfast halt on an early departure. Budget forty minutes and use it properly, because the next good stop is three hours on.

Coimbatore
Manchester of South India
At Salem the route leaves NH 44 and joins NH 544 heading west, and this is fast four-lane running across the Kongu plains. The Kaveri is crossed near Bhavani, with Erode just beyond - the centre of the largest turmeric trade in India and a major textile town in its own right. Tiruppur follows, the knitwear capital, whose garment export industry is visible along the highway in the density of units and transport depots. Avinashi holds an old and architecturally significant Shiva temple directly on the road, worth thirty minutes for anyone with an interest. Coimbatore is bypassed rather than entered, which is the sensible choice on a through journey. Note that recent driver reports have flagged flyover construction detours on the Salem bypass to Neelambur stretch and diversions around Madukkarai on the Coimbatore approach, so our drivers check current conditions rather than assuming a clear run.

Palakkad
Granary of Kerala
This is the most geographically interesting forty-five kilometres of the journey. The road crosses the Palakkad Gap, the only major break in sixteen hundred kilometres of Western Ghats, a corridor about thirty kilometres wide between the Nilgiris and the Anaimalais. The wind funnels through it constantly, which is why this belt has wind farms and why Coimbatore is noticeably breezier than the rest of the Tamil Nadu plains. Walayar is the Kerala border checkpost, where the interstate permit is presented - arranged by us in advance, so it is a formality. Commercial traffic queues here can be substantial. Beyond the border the change is immediate and total: laterite soil, coconut and rubber, tiled roofs, and green of a different order. Palakkad is the rice bowl of Kerala, with Tipu Sultan fort in the town and the Malampuzha dam and gardens nearby. It is the natural second halt of the journey and the first place to eat Kerala food properly.

Thrissur
Cultural Capital of Kerala
Sixty kilometres south-west through paddy and plantation country, with the Ghats now on the eastern horizon rather than ahead. The road is good and the driving is easy, and this stretch passes quickly. Thrissur is built in concentric rings around the Thekkinkadu Maidanam, the hillock at its centre crowned by the Vadakkumnathan temple, one of the oldest Shiva temples in Kerala and a monument of considerable architectural importance. The city is the acknowledged cultural capital of the state, and the Thrissur Pooram, held around April and May, is the most spectacular temple festival in Kerala - caparisoned elephants, percussion ensembles of hundreds of musicians, and a fireworks display that runs through the night. If your travel dates fall near Pooram, expect the city to be full and book accommodation far ahead.

Kochi
Queen of the Arabian Sea
The final ninety kilometres run south through Chalakudy, where the road east leads thirty kilometres to Athirappilly, the largest waterfall in Kerala - a genuinely worthwhile detour if you have built the time in, and best from June through January. Angamaly and Aluva follow on the Periyar, and from here the Kochi metropolitan belt begins in earnest. This stretch is where the current NH 544 works between Thrissur and Angamaly bite, and drivers familiar with the route have been using an internal line via Athani and Ashtamichira rejoining at Kodakara as the more predictable option. Our drivers check the position before committing. Approaching Kochi, the Edappally junction is heavily congested between roughly 8:00 and 10:00 AM, so arrival timing matters. Kochi itself is spread across the mainland at Ernakulam, the Fort Kochi peninsula and a chain of islands, so tell us your exact drop address - the difference between Ernakulam and Fort Kochi is around forty-five minutes in traffic. For Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery, note that it sits north of the city near Angamaly, on the road you came in on, so airport drops are quicker than the map suggests.

Minibus Packages from Bangalore to Kochi
Four package shapes cover almost every enquiry we take for this route. All are quoted garage to garage on actual kilometres and hours, with both interstate permits itemised separately.
Corporate Package
Built for offsites, conferences and client travel to Kochi, which has become a regular destination for Bangalore technology firms. A 20 to 24 seater minibus with pushback seating for the long haul, a GST-compliant invoice, a Proforma Invoice issued in advance for purchase-order approval, and 30-day credit terms for registered corporate accounts. Pickup from multiple tech park points on one trip sheet. Where a team exceeds twenty-four we pair a minibus with a tempo traveller so both vehicles travel in convoy under one coordinator. Regular clients route these through our corporate travel desk. Many corporate groups fly one leg and drive the other, and we handle Kochi airport transfers on the same trip sheet.
Family and Wedding Package
Kerala weddings and family holidays make up a large share of our Kochi bookings, and both bring heavy luggage, a wide age range and fixed arrival times. A 12 to 18 seater minibus with generous luggage space, a driver experienced on the NH-544 run, and an itinerary built around a night halt at Coimbatore or Salem rather than a single punishing day. For older travellers we strongly recommend splitting the drive in both directions, and we plan the Fort Kochi days so that walking distances stay reasonable.
Budget Group Package
For college groups, friend circles and cost-conscious family trips. A 12 to 20 seater non-AC or standard AC minibus at the lowest per-kilometre rate in our range. On a route of this length the per-head economics strongly favour a group vehicle: split across eighteen people, the total including both permits and driver halts usually lands below what the same group would spend on separate transport plus local taxis, ferries and parking in Kochi. This is where most mini bus rental in bangalore price enquiries land, and we quote it with the kilometre rate stated openly.
Luxury Package
Ten hours on the road is where a comfort upgrade earns its cost. Executive minibus with reclining seats, better suspension, curtains and a music system, or an upgrade to a Force Urbania for 13 to 17 passengers who want the highest comfort tier in this size class. This is the package we most often recommend for groups with elderly travellers or young children, and for corporate groups where people are expected to work the day after arrival.
Our Fleet at Tejas Tours and Travels
We operate and maintain the following vehicle categories, all available for the Kochi route and every other outstation destination from Bangalore.
• Buses: 27 to 50 seater, including Volvo and Benz coaches for large group and corporate movements.
• Minibus: 12 to 24 seater, the recommended size class for this route.
• Tempo Traveller: 8 to 18 seater for mid-size groups.
• Force Urbania: 13 to 17 seater luxury van.
• Cars: 4 to 7 seater, including Etios, Dzire, Innova, Innova Crysta, Innova Hycross, Fortuner, Commuter, Corolla Altis, Camry, Audi A6, Audi Q7, BMW 5 Series, BMW 7 Series, Mercedes E-Class, Mercedes S-Class and Rolls-Royce Ghost.
Please note that we do not operate a sleeper bus service. This is worth stating clearly on the Kochi route, because overnight sleeper coaches are the most common way of covering this distance and many enquiries start by asking for one. For our multi-day group travel we deploy seater coaches and minibuses with scheduled rest halts and planned driver night halts, and arrange hotel accommodation along the route where the itinerary requires it.

What Our Customers Say About Our Minibus Services in Bangalore
Why Choose Tejas Tours and Travels?
Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Kochi Minibus
About 550 kilometres by the main route through Hosur, Salem, Coimbatore, Palakkad and Thrissur, and 10 to 11 hours with halts. The alternative through Mysore, Wayanad and Kozhikode is longer and slower but much more scenic. Either way this is a full day on the road, and we recommend breaking it with a night halt rather than pushing through.
No, not sensibly. Two days means twenty hours of driving with almost nothing in between. Four days and three nights is the practical minimum: a travel day with a halt, a full day in Kochi, a second Kochi day, and a return. Five or six days lets you add Munnar or Alleppey, which is what most groups end up doing once they see the itinerary.
Two. Tamil Nadu is entered at Hosur, about forty kilometres from Bangalore, and Kerala at Walayar, about 420 kilometres in. A commercial vehicle needs a valid permit with the associated tax paid for each state. We arrange both as part of the booking and itemise each separately in the written quote, so there is nothing to sort out at either checkpost.
Trip starts from around Rs 35,800. Both permits, toll, parking, driver night halts and GST are billed separately and itemised in the quote. The final rental is calculated garage to garage on total kilometres and hours, so adding Munnar or Alleppey adjusts the figure accordingly.
Coimbatore is the better option, at 365 kilometres, with a wide hotel range and a comfortable three-hour run into Kochi the next morning. Salem, at 200 kilometres, is the alternative and suits groups leaving Bangalore late. Some groups prefer Yercaud above Salem, which turns the halt into a hill station night rather than a highway stop.
Not at the door. Both are old quarters with narrow streets, and a minibus parks at a designated lot near the beach or the Jew Town approach while the group walks, takes autos or uses the ferry. This is normal in Kochi and not a limitation of the vehicle. Hill Palace at Tripunithura and Cherai Beach both have proper parking, which is worth knowing when planning the days.
No. Backwater cruise and houseboat charges, entry tickets at Mattancherry Palace, the Paradesi Synagogue and Hill Palace, ferry fares and Fort Kochi parking are all payable on site and are not part of the vehicle rental. Our driver will drop you at the right jetty or gate and advise on timings, but the bookings and payments are yours to make.
Our minibus fleet runs from 12 to 24 seats. On a route this long, book one size above your headcount so passengers have room and luggage is not on laps for ten hours. Under seven a car is more economical, and for 8 to 18 a tempo traveller is worth comparing. For larger groups a Volvo coach becomes a reasonable option on this route, since the highway is good the whole way.
No. Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passenger insurance as part of the booking. Our vehicles carry the statutory commercial vehicle insurance required by law, but personal travel insurance for passengers needs to be arranged independently. On a long interstate itinerary this is worth arranging, particularly for groups with elderly travellers or young children.
We do not operate sleeper buses, which matters on this route because overnight sleeper coaches are the most common way of covering the distance and many enquiries start there. For our multi-day itineraries we deploy seater coaches and minibuses with scheduled rest halts and planned driver night halts, and arrange hotel accommodation along the route. For Kochi that usually means a night at Coimbatore or Salem in each direction.
