Places to Visit in Karkala

The Gommateshwara at Gomatabetta

The Gommateshwara at Gomatabetta

A forty-two foot Bahubali carved from a single granite block and raised in 1432 by the Bhairarasa ruler Veera Pandya, standing on a bare rock hill above the town with the coastal plain on one side and the Western Ghats on the other. It is the second largest of the Karnataka monoliths after Shravanabelagola and it stands in the open with none of the enclosure that surrounds most of them. The climb is short and stepped. Visit in the early morning or the late afternoon; the view from the top is worth as much time as the statue.

It is the second largest of the Karnataka monoliths after Shravanabelagola and it stands in the open with none of the enclosure that surrounds most of them. The climb is short and stepped. Visit in the early morning or the late afternoon; the view from the top is worth as much time as the statue.

Chaturmukha Basadi

Chaturmukha Basadi

Built in 1586 and quite unlike anything else on this coast - a square granite structure with four identical entrances facing the cardinal directions, each opening onto a sanctum with Tirthankara images looking outward, so the building has no front and no back. The stone is plain and precisely cut, and the effect is severe rather than ornate. It sits on a low rise near the Gommateshwara hill. Visit for half an hour and walk around all four sides; the symmetry is the point and it is only apparent from outside.

Varanga Kere Basadi

Varanga Kere Basadi

Twelve kilometres from Karkala, a Jain basadi stands in the middle of a lake and is reached by rowboat - the Kere Basadi at Varanga, with images of the Tirthankaras inside and water on every side. There is a second basadi on the bank. Getting there involves being rowed across, which takes a few minutes and is a large part of why people come. Visit in the morning when the water is still. Boat operation depends on the boatman being present and on water levels, so it is worth confirming locally rather than assuming, particularly outside the season.

St Lawrence Basilica at Attur

St Lawrence Basilica at Attur

Seven kilometres from Karkala, the basilica at Attur is one of the more visited Catholic shrines in coastal Karnataka, with a history going back to the eighteenth century and a reputation for miracles that draws pilgrims of every community - the annual feast in January brings very large numbers. There is a holy spring on the grounds. Visit at any time of year; it is quiet outside the feast. Together with the basadis and the Hindu temples nearby it makes Karkala a genuinely plural district, which is characteristic of this coast.

Anekere and Ramasamudra

Anekere and Ramasamudra

Anekere - the elephant lake - sits in the middle of Karkala and is said to have been where the Bhairarasa rulers washed their elephants. There is a small basadi on an island in it. Ramasamudra is the larger of the two town tanks, with a walking path around it. Neither is a destination in itself, but both are pleasant at either end of the day and they explain how the town is laid out. Visit at sunset. Karkala is small enough that the lakes, the basadi and the hill are all within a short drive of each other.

Udupi, Malpe and Agumbe

Udupi, Malpe and Agumbe

Karkala sits thirty-five kilometres from Udupi and its Krishna temple, where the deity is viewed through the celebrated nine-holed window and the ashta matha system has run the worship since Madhvacharya. Malpe, a little further, is the harbour with boats out to St Mary Islands and their columnar basalt formations. Agumbe is around forty kilometres inland with the sunset viewpoint and the rainforest research station. Visit any as a day from Karkala. For most groups the town is the base and these are what fills the second and third days.

Force Urbania Packages for the Bangalore to Karkala Route

Corporate Package

Built for Bangalore technology, manufacturing and financial services teams travelling west for offsites, dealer meets, CSR programmes and leadership retreats. Includes GST invoicing, a Proforma Invoice for PO-based approval, a named chauffeur for the full trip, and consolidated monthly billing for registered accounts. A corporate urbania rental bangalore booking works particularly well for senior teams of twelve to sixteen, because the vehicle carries the group together without the boardroom-on-wheels feel of a coach. Karkala also makes an unusually good offsite base: Ghats, coast and heritage circuit all inside ninety minutes. Our corporate travels desk handles the arrangement end to end, including multi-vehicle movements when the group outgrows one Urbania.

Family and Pilgrimage Package

The largest share of bookings on this corridor. Jain families running the Shravanabelagola, Karkala, Venur and Mudabidri circuit, and Hindu family groups combining Dharmasthala, Kukke Subramanya, Udupi and Kollur Mookambika, account for most of it. These itineraries run on temple timings rather than driving hours, which means long waits with the vehicle parked and a chauffeur who understands that this is normal rather than an inconvenience. For extended families the Urbania solves a specific problem: three generations who want to travel in one vehicle, where the older members need a comfortable seat and easy boarding, and nobody wants to be split across two cars for a week.

Luxury and Executive Package

The Urbania’s premium configuration, with wider captain-style seating, greater legroom, superior interior finish and additional cabin insulation. On a route that includes an hour of ghat driving, this is not decoration — noise levels and seat support are what people remember afterwards. Suited to senior management travel, milestone family occasions and anyone who would rather arrive at Karkala fresh. Luxury urbania rental bangalore is our most-requested tier on this corridor, and for groups of twelve to sixteen it delivers most of what a full luxury coach would, at a fraction of the running cost and with far better manners on a narrow ghat road.

Wedding and Event Package

Coastal Karnataka weddings routinely draw guests from Bangalore, and moving them in ones and twos is both expensive and chaotic. A single urbania for wedding bangalore booking carries sixteen guests door to door, arrives together, and stays available for local movement between venue, hotel and temple across the event. The same applies to corporate offsite ground transport and destination events around Udupi and Mangalore. Guest transport in larger numbers is handled by our wedding car rental bangalore division, which can combine an Urbania for the core party with cars or a coach for the wider guest list.

Our Vehicle Range in Bangalore

The Force Urbania sits at the top of our small-group category, in 13 and 17 seater configurations, all air-conditioned. We operate the full range of vehicles from the same Bangalore base, so if your headcount shifts after booking we can usually move you between categories without starting over.

•             Force Urbania — 13 to 17 seater luxury van, the core vehicle for this route

•             Tempo traveller — 8 to 18 seater, the budget alternative on the same corridor

•             Mini bus — 12 to 24 seater, AC and non-AC

•             Bus — 27 to 50 seater, including Volvo and Benz coaches for large groups

•             Cars — 4 to 7 seater, from Etios, Dzire, Innova and Commuter through Innova Crysta, Innova Hycross and Fortuner, up to Corolla Altis, Camry, Audi A6, Audi Q7, BMW 5 Series, BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz E Class, Mercedes-Benz S Class and Rolls-Royce Ghost

Tejas Tours and Travels does not operate sleeper bus services. All our vehicles are seated configuration with push-back seats. On the Karkala route this changes nothing, because the drive is comfortably completed within daylight hours, and we would not recommend taking Charmadi Ghat after dark under any circumstances.

Billing Details — What Is Included and What Is Extra

We quote in writing before you book, and the quote itemises everything, so nothing appears at trip end that you have not already seen. A 20 percent advance of the total fare confirms the booking.

Included in the Quoted Fare

•             Base fare and fuel charges

•             Driver allowance

Not Included — Billed Separately at Actuals

•             Toll charges and parking fees

•             Interstate tax, where the itinerary crosses a state border

•             Additional driver bata after 9:45 PM

•             GST as applicable

•             Final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage

Bangalore to Karkala remains within Karnataka throughout, so no interstate permit or border tax applies. Extend the itinerary into Kerala, Goa or Tamil Nadu and permit charges apply, shown as separate line items in the quote.

The garage-to-garage basis is standard practice across the organised group transport industry in Bangalore. The meter starts when the vehicle leaves our garage for your pickup point and stops when it returns. This is built into the written quote, so the figure you approve is the figure you pay.

Tejas Tours and Travels does not provide passenger insurance cover. Passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance if required. Vehicle insurance and full statutory driver and vehicle compliance are maintained across the fleet.

How to Book a Force Urbania for Rent in Bangalore — Step by Step

Booking an Urbania for hire in Bangalore with Tejas Travels takes under five minutes. Follow these four steps.

Step 1 — Contact Tejas Travels

•             Call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773, or email info@tejastravels.com. Available 24 hours, 7 days a week.

•             Share your travel date.

•             Share your Bangalore pickup location — area or landmark such as Whitefield, Electronic City, MG Road, Koramangala, KIA airport, a hotel name or a tech park.

•             Share your destination or full itinerary.

•             Share your number of passengers.

•             Share your preferred configuration: 13 seater or 17 seater Urbania, standard or luxury interior.

•             For KIA airport pickups, share the flight number. The chauffeur tracks live flight status and adjusts pickup timing for delayed flights automatically.

•             For weddings, corporate events and VIP travel, mention the occasion, so the team can allocate the best-condition vehicle and, where required, formal chauffeur attire.

•             For Karkala and other multi-day outstation hire, share the full day-wise itinerary so we can assign a chauffeur with ghat route experience.

Step 2 — Receive Your Written Quote

•             Within 2 hours of your enquiry, Tejas Travels sends a written quote via WhatsApp or email.

•             The quote itemises every charge:

•             Urbania hire rate — per kilometre or flat package

•             Driver allowance — Rs 400 to Rs 1,000 per day depending on vehicle class and trip duration

•             Applicable toll estimates

•             Interstate permit only where the itinerary leaves Karnataka — Tamil Nadu for Ooty, Kerala for Wayanad, Andhra Pradesh for Tirupati. Not applicable for Karkala.

•             GST

•             No verbal-only pricing. Everything is in writing before you confirm.

•             For corporate clients requiring reimbursement, a Proforma Invoice can be issued at this stage.

•             If you want to compare two vehicle classes — Urbania against tempo traveller, or 13 seater against 17 seater — request both quotes at the same time.

Step 3 — Confirm Your Booking and Pay Advance

•             Review the written quote and confirm via WhatsApp or phone.

•             A 20 percent advance payment of the total fare confirms the booking and guarantees the specific vehicle on your date.

•             Payment options: UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm), NEFT, IMPS or RTGS bank transfer, or credit and debit card via payment link.

•             Advance receipt issued within 30 minutes.

•             Your confirmation includes:

•             Driver name and mobile number

•             Vehicle registration number

•             Departure time

•             Pickup location confirmation

•             Full billing breakdown — all sent to WhatsApp or email in writing

•             Urbania availability is limited compared with standard vehicles. For peak Bangalore dates — wedding season from November to February, New Year, Diwali, Dasara and long IT weekends — book well ahead.

Step 4 — Your Chauffeur Arrives Early

•             Your assigned Tejas Travels chauffeur arrives at the confirmed Bangalore pickup point 15 minutes before scheduled departure.

•             For KIA airport transfers, the chauffeur coordinates at the Arrivals gate.

•             The vehicle is clean, sanitised, fuelled and ready.

•             For wedding and VIP bookings, the chauffeur arrives in formal attire.

•             The chauffeur calls 30 minutes before arrival as a courtesy.

•             During the trip the chauffeur handles all routing, toll payments, ORR and NICE road exits, Bangalore traffic and the Charmadi Ghat descent.

•             At trip end the balance is settled after deducting the advance.

•             Any additional kilometres or hours are billed at the pre-agreed rate.

Quick booking: WhatsApp +91 9980277773 with your vehicle preference, Bangalore pickup location, destination and travel date. Written quote in 2 hours.

Payment Methods — Force Urbania Hire in Bangalore

Tejas Travels accepts all major digital and traditional payment methods for both advance booking and final settlement at trip end.

•             UPI — Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM UPI and Amazon Pay. The fastest method, with instant confirmation on receipt. Recommended for all advance deposits.

•             Bank transfer — NEFT, IMPS and RTGS. For corporate clients and advances above Rs 5,000. IMPS is instant; NEFT can take up to 2 hours.

•             Credit and debit card — Visa, Mastercard and RuPay, via payment link sent to your registered mobile or email. Valid for both advance and full payment.

•             Net banking — All major Indian banks. Payment link via WhatsApp or email. Preferred for Bangalore IT corporate PO-based approvals.

•             Cash — Balance payable at time of travel, accepted at trip end. The advance must be digital for booking confirmation. A receipt is issued.

•             Corporate credit — For registered corporate accounts, with 30-day credit terms for signed Bangalore corporate clients and monthly consolidated invoicing available.

A 20 percent advance confirms your booking and guarantees vehicle availability. Because Urbania fleet numbers are limited and demand peaks during Bangalore wedding season, a higher advance may be requested for peak dates and multi-day outstation hire to Karkala, Udupi and Dharmasthala.

•             Premium vehicles — luxury-configuration Urbania and high-end cars require a minimum 5-day notice for a full refund, given limited Bangalore fleet availability and wedding season demand.

•             Peak dates — New Year, Diwali, Dasara and Bangalore long weekends require a minimum 48-hour notice for a full refund. Less than 24 hours is non-refundable.

•             Force majeure — Bangalore bandhs, Charmadi Ghat landslide closures, traffic disruptions and road closures attract a 100 percent refund within 2 working days regardless of notice period, or a rerouted trip via Shiradi Ghat at no extra charge if you would rather travel.

•             Modifications — date changes, vehicle upgrades and route additions with more than 24 hours notice are accommodated at no penalty, subject to availability.

Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Karkala Urbania

The bangalore to karkala distance by road is approximately 370 kilometres, running on NH75 through Nelamangala, Kunigal, Channarayapatna, Hassan and Belur, then on state highway through Mudigere, Charmadi Ghat, Ujire and Belthangady. Allow 8 to 9 hours including breakfast, lunch and the ghat descent, which is slower than any map will suggest. A 5:00 AM departure puts a group in Karkala by early afternoon with the evening free for Anekere Lake and Chaturmukha Basadi. The karkala to bangalore distance is identical on the return, though the climb up Charmadi takes marginally longer than the descent.

Urbania fare starts around Rs 29,500. The final figure depends on vehicle class, number of days and total kilometres run. Since billing is garage to garage on actual kilometres and hours, we issue a written itemised quote within 2 hours rather than a verbal estimate.

Both carry a similar number of passengers, so the choice comes down to comfort against cost. A tempo traveller is the more economical option and remains a perfectly good vehicle for this corridor. The Urbania has a monocoque body with less body roll, a stand-up cabin, individual air vents, better seats and considerably better sound insulation. On a short run the difference is modest. On 370 kilometres with an hour of Charmadi hairpins in the middle, most groups who have tried both do not go back. We are happy to quote for both at the same time so you can decide on the numbers.

We operate the Urbania in 13 seater and 17 seater configurations, both air-conditioned. The 13 seater has wider spacing and more luggage room behind the last row, so it suits longer trips and heavier luggage. The force urbania 17 seater maximises capacity and is the usual choice for corporate groups and larger families. Below thirteen passengers a car or SUV is more economical; above seventeen, a 12 to 24 seater mini bus or a coach takes over.

Charmadi is a narrow forest ghat with a long sequence of hairpin bends, and the Urbania is well suited to it — the monocoque body and low centre of gravity make it more composed through continuous corners than a taller ladder-frame van. We assign chauffeurs with ghat experience on this corridor and schedule the descent in daylight, never after dark. Landslides close the road during heavy monsoon, and when that happens we reroute via Sakleshpur, Shiradi Ghat, Mangalore and Padubidri at around 400 kilometres, at no additional cost to you. You are told before departure, not halfway there.

No. The entire route stays within Karnataka, so no interstate permit or border tax applies. If you extend the trip into Kerala for Wayanad or Guruvayur, or into Goa, permits are required and billed at actuals as separate line items. We arrange all permit documentation before departure in those cases, so nothing is left for you to handle at a border post.

A 20 percent advance of the total fare confirms your booking and guarantees the specific vehicle on your travel date. The advance must be paid digitally by UPI, bank transfer or card, and a receipt is issued within 30 minutes. The balance is settled at trip end after deducting the advance. Urbania fleet numbers are limited relative to demand, so for Bangalore wedding season between November and February, and for Dasara, Diwali and New Year, book as far ahead as you can.

October to February is the most comfortable window: dry on the coast, pleasant temperatures and the Ghats still green from the monsoon. March to May turns hot and humid at Karkala, though the Urbania’s air conditioning handles it well. June to September brings very heavy rain to this part of the Western Ghats — the landscape is at its most dramatic, but Charmadi can close at short notice and outdoor sites like Varanga and Kudremukh are harder to enjoy. The Mahamastakabhisheka at Karkala, held once every twelve years, draws enormous crowds and needs booking months in advance.

Yes, and most groups book it that way. The same vehicle and chauffeur stay with you throughout, covering Bahubali Betta, Chaturmukha Basadi, Hiriyangadi, Anekere, Attur and Varanga around Karkala, plus onward legs to Mudabidri, Venur, Udupi, Malpe, Dharmasthala, Kollur or Kudremukh. Multi-day bookings are billed on total kilometres and hours with a per-day minimum plus driver allowance. Share your day-wise itinerary at enquiry stage and we quote the whole trip as one figure rather than leg by leg.

Tejas Tours and Travels does not operate sleeper bus services. All vehicles are seated configuration with push-back seats, and on this route it makes no practical difference, since the journey is completed comfortably within daylight hours. On insurance: we do not provide passenger insurance cover, and passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance if they wish to be covered. All vehicles carry valid insurance and full statutory compliance, and every chauffeur is verified with a commercial licence and route experience, but personal passenger cover is not part of the booking. To book, call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773 or email info@tejastravels.com. Our urbania booking online and WhatsApp enquiry lines are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
