Dabbe Falls
For travellers who want a waterfall without the crowd, Dabbe Falls near Hosanagara is the alternative. Reaching it involves a jeep ride and a forest trek of a few kilometres, which is exactly why it stays empty. The falls drop in tiered steps through thick canopy into a pool that is one of the finest sights in the valley. Bhadravathi
Steel City of Karnataka
Bhadravathi is Karnataka's original industrial town. The Visvesvaraya Iron and Steel Plant was set up here in 1923 under the guidance of Sir M Visvesvaraya, using iron ore from Kemmangundi and charcoal from the surrounding forests, making this small Malnad town one of the earliest heavy-industry centres in southern India. The Mysore Paper Mills followed. Both have declined, but the industrial skyline and planned colony layout still tell the story. The Lakshmi Narasimha temple here is a superb Hoysala building from around 1250 CE, with three shrines and dense wall sculpture, and far less crowded than Belur or Halebidu.
Shivamogga
Gateway to Malnad
Shivamogga is the district headquarters and the largest city on the route after Tumakuru, sitting on the banks of the Tunga. It is the commercial heart of Malnad and the last place with full hospital, banking and shopping infrastructure before the falls. Sakrebailu Elephant Camp, fourteen kilometres out on the Thirthahalli road, lets you watch forest department elephants being bathed in the Tunga each morning, and Tyavarekoppa Lion and Tiger Safari on the Sagara road is small but well run. Sagara
Areca Town and Seat of the Keladi Nayakas
Sagara is the last proper town before the falls and the base most travellers actually stay in. The last thirty kilometres from Sagara run through Talaguppa and Kargal, and this is the most beautiful driving of the entire route. The road narrows, the forest closes overhead and the Sharavathi Valley Lion-Tailed Macaque Sanctuary begins on both sides. Talaguppa is the railway terminus, fourteen kilometres from the falls. Kargal is the township built for the hydroelectric project workers. Then the road opens at the viewpoint and the gorge appears. Park at the main gate, walk to the viewing tower and give yourself at least two hours. Access to the stepped descent toward the base is restricted depending on water level and safety conditions, so check with staff on the day.

The bangalore to jog falls distance is approximately 400 to 410 kilometres via Tumakuru, Arsikere, Shivamogga and Sagara. Driving time is 8 to 9 hours including two comfort halts. Morning traffic leaving Bengaluru and the two-lane stretch after Tiptur are the two factors that most affect timing, so an early departure makes a real difference.
The fare includes base fare, fuel charges and driver allowance. Toll and parking, inter-state tax where applicable, additional driver bata for travel after 9:45 pm, and GST are charged separately. The final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours, garage to garage. Every one of these items appears in your written quote before you pay the advance.
Twenty percent of the total fare confirms your booking. The balance is settled at the end of the trip after deducting the advance. Payment can be made by UPI, bank transfer or card via a payment link, and an advance receipt is issued on confirmation.
A minimum of two days and one night. A single-day return of 800 kilometres is technically possible but leaves you barely an hour at the falls and is exhausting for everyone including the driver. Three days is ideal and lets you add Linganamakki Dam, Sigandur and either Honnemaradu or Kodachadri without rushing.
Late July to September for maximum water flow, though afternoon fog frequently obscures the view. October to December offers strong flow with much better visibility, and is our usual recommendation. Between January and May the flow depends entirely on releases from the Linganamakki Dam and can be very thin.
For two or three passengers a sedan such as a Dzire or Etios is sufficient. For four to six with luggage, an Innova Crysta or Innova Hycross is the right call given the ghat sections. Groups of nine to sixteen should take a Tempo Traveller or a Force Urbania, and larger parties a minibus or bus. Note that we do not operate sleeper bus services on any route.
Yes, and it is a popular extension. Murudeshwar is roughly 120 kilometres from Jog Falls and Gokarna a further 80. Kollur Mookambika is about 100 kilometres away and pairs naturally with Sigandur now that the bridge has cut the crossing time. Mention it at the enquiry stage so the day-wise plan and driver allowance are quoted correctly.
Cancellation more than 72 hours before departure carries no charge and the full advance is refunded within 5 to 7 working days. Between 48 and 72 hours a 10 percent charge applies, between 24 and 48 hours 25 percent, and between 12 and 24 hours 50 percent. Under 12 hours the charge is 75 percent. If we cancel for a breakdown or force majeure reason there is no charge and the advance is refunded within 2 working days, or a substitute vehicle is provided.

The highway up to Shivamogga is well surfaced and reasonably lit. The stretch beyond Sagara toward Kargal passes through the Sharavathi Valley sanctuary, is unlit, has wildlife crossings and is not recommended after dark, particularly in monsoon. We schedule arrivals before nightfall wherever possible. Travel after 9:45 pm attracts an additional driver bata charge.
