Idukki Arch Dam and Hill View Park
The arch stands a hundred and sixty-eight metres high across the Periyar gorge between the Kuravan and Kurathi hills, built without buttresses so that the water pressure holds it into the rock - among the first arch dams in Asia and still one of the tallest. Hill View Park above Cheruthoni gives the view down onto it and the gorge, with a garden and a viewpoint, and it operates independently of access to the dam itself. Visit in the morning before cloud builds. Check the current access position before travelling if walking on the dam is the point of your trip.

Bangalore
Departure Point
Your journey to Ooty begins from Bangalore, the gateway to South India's most beloved hill stations. Pick-up is available from any part of the city — Koramangala, Electronic City, Whitefield, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Marathahalli, or Majestic. The most common route out of Bangalore takes you onto NH275, the six-lane Mysore Expressway, which is one of the smoothest and best-maintained national highways in Karnataka. An early departure between 5 AM and 6 AM is strongly advised to clear Bangalore city limits before peak traffic begins. The first 50 km on the expressway are fast, comfortable, and lightly trafficked in the early hours, setting a pleasant tone for the journey ahead. Our drivers are experienced in choosing the optimal departure window and route based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring that the first stretch of your Bangalore to Ooty road trip is efficient, calm, and enjoyable from the very first kilometre.

Dindigul
Lock City of India
The first five hours are the fastest of the journey, on four and six-lane NH 44, and our drivers aim to be past Electronic City before 5:30 AM. On this route more than most, time banked early matters - everything beyond Kumily is hill road and you do not want to be doing it in the dark. The Thoppur ghat is the first gradient of the day and our drivers take it conservatively. Salem is the natural breakfast halt with the best highway restaurants on the corridor. Dindigul, where the route turns west, lands almost exactly at lunch - and the Thalappakatti biryani that originated there is the most famous food stop on this highway.
Kumily
Spice Market Town of the Border
West through Batlagundu into Theni district at the foot of the Ghats, with the mountains close and the country green and hemmed in. The Cumbum valley beyond is grape country - the GI-tagged Panneer Thratchai vineyards run along the road under the wall of the Ghats, which is an unexpected landscape in Tamil Nadu. The climb to Kumily is around thirty kilometres of ghat through forest, and the air changes on the way up - cooler and unmistakably spiced. The Kerala border and the interstate permit come at Kumily, arranged by us in advance. For anyone combining Idukki with Periyar this is where you would stop; Thekkady is four kilometres off the road here.

Idukki
Dam Town and the District Seat
Sixty kilometres of hill road north-west through the heart of the cardamom country, and it is slow going - winding, narrow in places and climbing and dropping continuously, so an hour and a half is realistic rather than the forty minutes the distance suggests. Vandanmedu comes first, one of the largest cardamom auction centres anywhere, then Kattappana, the market town the High Range spice economy runs through. Cardamom under shade trees covers the slopes on both sides of the road for most of this stretch. Cheruthoni and Painavu sit either side of the gorge below the arch - Cheruthoni the dam town, Painavu the district headquarters on the hill above. It is a small, steep, working place rather than a resort, and accommodation is scattered across the surrounding hills rather than concentrated, several on narrow approach roads. Send us the property name at booking and we will confirm access. A 5:00 AM departure puts most travellers in by around 5:00 PM, which is why we generally suggest splitting this journey.

Urbania Packages for the Bangalore to Idukki Route
Every quotation is built around what you actually need rather than a fixed menu. The four structures below describe how we typically shape force urbania hire enquiries on this corridor.
District Circuit Package
The booking that makes sense of Idukki, and the one where a retained premium vehicle pays back most clearly. The district is very large and almost entirely hills, and the things worth seeing are spread across it on roads where forty kilometres takes an hour and a half. Three or four days with the same Urbania and driver is the realistic shape, and many groups extend into Munnar or Thekkady, which are in the same district. Across a circuit like this the vehicle covers several hundred kilometres of continuous hill road, which is exactly the mileage profile where suspension and seat quality stop being cosmetic and start deciding whether day three is enjoyable.
Corporate Package
Vagamon in particular has become a popular offsite destination, and the Urbania is what most Bangalore corporate desks book for it. The vehicle communicates the company's standards without anyone having to say so. Practically: GST invoicing, a Proforma Invoice for PO-based approval, a named driver for the full trip, GPS tracking for the event manager, and consolidated monthly billing for registered accounts. Per-seat USB and a quiet cabin mean a twelve-hour drive is working time rather than lost time. Our corporate travels desk manages it end to end. One honest note we give every corporate enquiry: the drive makes Idukki a three-day commitment at minimum, and a corporate urbania bangalore booking planned as two days will not work.
Family Package
Eleven to twelve hours of driving with hill road at the end is a long first day, and for families we would generally split it — Madurai or Dindigul on the way down, or Thekkady at Kumily, which sits directly on the road sixty kilometres short. That gets you into the hills in daylight, which matters on roads this winding, and turns the journey into part of the trip rather than the price of it. The Urbania makes the split version genuinely comfortable for a mixed-age group: full recline in every row rather than the front two, individual armrests so nobody negotiates for space, and dual-zone air conditioning so the back row is not the hot row. Child seats can be arranged with notice.
Luxury and Guest Hosting Package
For milestone trips, guest hosting and senior family groups where the vehicle is part of the occasion rather than a means of reaching it. The 8 to 10 seater configurations use a 1/1 captain layout, so every passenger has an individual window seat — the most exclusive way to do this route short of separate cars, and considerably more comfortable than separate cars across twelve hours and a hill circuit. Chauffeur in formal attire on request, vehicle deep-cleaned before departure, and the same Urbania retained throughout. This tier suits luxury van hire bangalore enquiries where the group is small but the standard expected is high.
Our Force Urbania Fleet in Bangalore
We operate the Urbania in seven configurations — 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 15 and 16 seater. The 8 to 10 seaters use a 1/1 captain layout with every passenger on a window; 12 seats and above use a 2/1 layout. All are deep-cleaned before every booking, GPS tracked, serviced at authorised Force Motors centres and driven by chauffeurs trained specifically on the Urbania, which handles differently from a standard van. Our wider fleet runs alongside it from the same Bangalore base, so if the headcount or the budget changes after enquiry we can move you across categories without restarting.
• Force Urbania — 8 to 16 seater luxury van, the premium vehicle for this route and well suited to the district's narrow roads
• Tempo traveller — 8 to 18 seater, the standard alternative at roughly sixty to eighty percent less per kilometre
• Mini bus — 12 to 24 seater, for larger groups where property access has been confirmed
• Bus — 27 to 50 seater, including Volvo and Benz coaches; several roads in this district are genuinely tight for a long wheelbase and we will often suggest two smaller vehicles instead
• Cars — 4 to 7 seater, from Etios, Dzire, Innova, Innova Crysta, Innova Hycross, Fortuner and Commuter through Corolla Altis, Camry, Audi A6, Audi Q7, BMW 5 Series, BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz E Class, Mercedes-Benz S Class and Rolls-Royce Ghost
Tejas Tours and Travels does not operate sleeper bus services. All our vehicles are seated configuration, and on this route we plan a daylight arrival rather than an overnight run — on roads that wind continuously for the last hundred and fifty kilometres, that is a safety position as much as a comfort one. The Urbania fleet is also smaller than our tempo traveller fleet, so specific variants book out ahead of long weekends, Onam, Diwali, New Year and the December to January peak. Confirm early if you need a particular configuration.
Billing Details — What Is Included and What Is Extra
We quote in writing before you book and the quote itemises everything, so there are no surprises at trip end. A 20 percent advance of the total fare confirms your booking. All Urbania outstation rates are garage to garage with fuel included.
Included in the Quoted Fare
• Base fare and fuel charges
• Driver allowance
Not Included — Billed Separately at Actuals
• Toll charges and parking fees
• Interstate tax and permits for the Tamil Nadu and Kerala crossings
• Additional driver bata after 9:45 PM
• GST as applicable
• Final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage
The garage-to-garage basis is standard across the organised group transport industry in Bangalore. The meter starts when the vehicle leaves our garage for your pickup point and ends when it returns, and we factor this into the written quote, so the number you approve is the number you pay.
Three points are specific to this route. First, dam access where it is open, Hill View Park entry, Thommankuthu eco-tourism fees and any forest department arrangements are paid on site — and dam access in particular is controlled by the state electricity board rather than a tourism body, so it is not something any operator can secure for you. Second, the Kerala interstate permit applies at Kumily and is quoted as a separate line at actual, alongside the Tamil Nadu permit. Third, district running here is substantial and slow: Ramakkalmedu is forty kilometres away, Vagamon considerably further, Thommankuthu fifty, and hill roads make every distance take longer than it reads. Our circuit quotes carry a stated allowance rather than a bare point-to-point figure.
Tejas Tours and Travels does not provide passenger insurance cover. Passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance if required. Vehicle insurance and full statutory driver and vehicle compliance are maintained across the fleet. For the Thommankuthu trek and any paragliding at Vagamon, the operators run their own arrangements, which are worth checking directly.

How to Book a Force Urbania for Rent in Bangalore — Step by Step
Booking a Force Urbania for hire in Bangalore with Tejas Travels takes under five minutes. Follow these four steps.
Step 1 — Contact Tejas Travels
• Call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773, or email info@tejastravels.com. Available 24 hours, 7 days a week.
• Share your travel date.
• Share your Bangalore pickup location — area, building or landmark such as Whitefield, Electronic City, MG Road, Koramangala, a hotel name or a tech park.
• Share your destination or full day-wise itinerary, and tell us whether you are heading for the dam side or for Vagamon. The two are routed differently.
• Share your group size and the Urbania seating variant you need: 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 15 or 16 seater.
• Share the Idukki property name, so we can confirm the approach road before allocating the vehicle. Accommodation here is scattered across the hills and several properties sit on narrow approaches.
• For KIA airport pickups, share the flight number. The driver tracks live flight status and adjusts pickup timing for delayed flights automatically.
• For corporate, wedding and VIP bookings, mention the occasion so the team allocates the best-condition Urbania and arranges chauffeur formal attire where required.
• For multi-day district circuits and combined Munnar or Thekkady itineraries, share the full day-wise plan so we can allocate a driver with hill-route experience.
Step 2 — Receive Your Written Quote
• Within 2 hours of your enquiry, Tejas Travels sends a written quote via WhatsApp or email.
• The quote itemises every charge:
◦ Urbania hire rate — per kilometre or flat local package, garage to garage with fuel included
◦ Driver allowance — Rs 600 per day for outstation hire
◦ Applicable toll estimates
◦ Interstate permits — Tamil Nadu and Kerala on this route, Andhra Pradesh for Tirupati, Goa for the west coast
◦ A stated allowance for district running, which on Idukki hill roads is substantial and slow
◦ Driver night halt charges for multi-day hire
◦ GST
• No verbal-only pricing. Everything is in writing before you commit.
• For corporate clients requiring reimbursements, a Proforma Invoice can be issued at this stage for PO-based approval.
• If you want to compare the 13 seater against the 15 seater, or a standard tempo traveller against the Urbania, request both quotes at the same time. We will give you the honest comparison rather than steering you to the premium tier.
Step 3 — Confirm Your Booking and Pay Advance
• Review the written quote and confirm via WhatsApp or phone.
• A 20 percent advance payment of the total fare confirms the booking and guarantees the specific Urbania variant on your date.
• This matters more than on other vehicles. The Urbania fleet is limited, and particular variants book out ahead of IT sector long weekends, Onam, Diwali, New Year and the December to January peak.
• Payment options: UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm), NEFT, IMPS or RTGS bank transfer, or credit and debit card via payment link.
• Advance receipt issued within 30 minutes.
• Your confirmation includes:
◦ Driver name and mobile number
◦ Vehicle registration number
◦ Departure time
◦ Pickup location confirmation
◦ Full billing breakdown — all sent to WhatsApp or email in writing
Step 4 — Your Driver and Urbania Arrive Early
• Your assigned Tejas Travels driver arrives at the confirmed Bangalore pickup point 15 minutes before scheduled departure.
• The Urbania is clean, deep-sanitised, fuelled and ready, with the dual-zone air conditioning checked before every outstation departure.
• For wedding, corporate and VIP bookings, the driver is in formal attire.
• The driver calls you 30 minutes before arrival as a courtesy.
• During the trip the driver handles all routing, toll payments, ORR and NICE road exits, and the Tamil Nadu and Kerala permit checkpoints at Attibele and Kumily.
• Drivers on this route check the local position on dam access before setting out, so the day is planned around what is actually open.
• GPS tracking is available throughout, which corporate event managers use to follow the group in real time.
• At trip end the balance is settled after deducting the advance. Any additional kilometres or hours are billed at the pre-agreed rate.
Quick booking: WhatsApp +91 9980277773 with your group size, Bangalore pickup area, destination and travel date. Written Urbania quote in 2 hours.
Payment Methods — Force Urbania for Rent and Hire in Bangalore
Tejas Travels accepts all major digital and traditional payment methods. Given the limited Urbania fleet size, the advance matters more here than on other vehicles — it is what guarantees your specific variant on your date.
• UPI — Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM UPI and Amazon Pay. The fastest method, with instant confirmation on receipt. Recommended for advance deposits on Urbania hire.
• Bank transfer — NEFT, IMPS and RTGS. For corporate clients and advances above Rs 10,000. IMPS is instant; NEFT can take up to 2 hours.
• Credit and debit card — Visa, Mastercard and RuPay, via payment link sent to your registered mobile or email. Valid for both advance and full payment.
• Net banking — All major Indian banks. Payment link via WhatsApp or email. Preferred for corporate PO-based approvals.
• Cash — Balance payable at time of travel, accepted at trip end. The advance must be digital for booking confirmation. A receipt is issued.
• Corporate credit — For registered corporate accounts, with 30-day credit terms for signed corporate clients and invoice issued within 24 hours of trip completion.
A 20 percent advance confirms your booking and guarantees the specific seating variant. For multi-day Idukki district circuits and combined Munnar or Thekkady itineraries during peak dates, a higher advance may be required.

What Our Customers Say About Our Urbania Services in Bangalore
Why Choose Tejas Tours and Travels?
Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Idukki Urbania
The bangalore to idukki distance is around 600 kilometres via NH 44 through Salem, Karur and Dindigul, then west through Theni, Kumily, Vandanmedu and Kattappana, with reported figures between 580 and 630 kilometres. An Urbania takes 11 to 12 hours with two proper halts. Everything beyond Kumily is hill road where sixty kilometres takes an hour and a half, which is the part people consistently underestimate. On a 5:00 AM departure you arrive around 5:00 PM, which is why we usually recommend splitting the journey.
No, though Munnar is in Idukki district — as are Thekkady, Marayoor and Vagamon, which is why the term causes so much confusion. Idukki as a place means the arch dam at Cheruthoni and the district town at Painavu, around a hundred kilometres south of Munnar by hill road. If you are looking for the tea estates, our Munnar page is the one you want; for Periyar and the boat safari, our Thekkady page. This page covers Idukki proper and the surrounding hill country, and all three combine well into one circuit if you have the days.
Usually not, and this is the single most important thing to know before planning a trip around it. The dam is a working installation operated by the state electricity board rather than a tourism facility, and public access to the arch has historically been restricted, opening only for limited periods with arrangements announced each year and changed more than once. We deliberately do not publish a schedule here, because anything specific would be out of date within a season. Check with the electricity board or district tourism close to your dates. Our drivers check the local position before setting out, and no operator can secure access the board has not granted.
A good deal, and this is worth understanding before you decide the trip is not worth making. Hill View Park above Cheruthoni gives the view down onto the arch and the gorge and operates independently. Kalvary Mount looks out over the reservoir spreading back through the hills and is the better view on a clear morning. The Kulamavu dam and reservoir shoreline are accessible and quiet. Add Ramakkalmedu, Vagamon, Thommankuthu and the cardamom belt, and the dam is one item on a full itinerary rather than the whole trip. For most visitors most of the year, this is the Idukki experience, and it is a perfectly good one.
Urbania fare starts around Rs 48,700. The final figure depends on vehicle class, number of days and total kilometres run. Since billing is garage to garage on actual kilometres and hours, we issue a written itemised quote within 2 hours rather than a verbal estimate.
On this route the case is stronger than on any other we run into Kerala, but it still depends on the group. Force urbania rate per km runs roughly sixty to eighty percent above a tempo traveller. If cost per head is the deciding factor — a college trip, a community tour, a large group on a fixed budget — a tempo traveller does this route perfectly well and we will quote you one without pushing. What tips it here is the sheer number of hours in the vehicle: twelve each way, plus four or five hours of hill driving on each circuit day. That is more seat time than any other destination we serve, and it is precisely the profile where recliners, suspension and a quiet cabin stop being cosmetic.
Accommodation in Idukki is scattered across the hills rather than concentrated, and several properties sit on narrow approach roads, so we ask for the property name at the enquiry stage and check the approach before allocating. The Urbania has a van footprint rather than a bus one, which is a real advantage here, but a handful of approaches are tight even for a van and it is better to know that in advance. On variants: we run 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 15 and 16 seaters. The 8 to 10 seaters use a 1/1 captain layout where every passenger has a window, which suits guest hosting and senior groups. From 12 upward the layout is 2/1. Book one size above your headcount if you are carrying luggage for a week-long Kerala circuit.
Yes, two. The Karnataka to Tamil Nadu permit is checked at Attibele shortly after Hosur, and the Kerala permit is presented at Kumily at the top of the ghat. Both are arranged by us in advance and billed at actuals rather than absorbed into the base rate, so you need do nothing and there is no delay at either crossing. Our drivers handle both routinely and carry the documentation with the vehicle papers.
Ramakkalmedu is around forty kilometres from Idukki, which is an hour and a half each way on hill road, and it is worth it — the escarpment view over Theni and the Cumbum valley, with wind strong enough to be genuinely startling, and the Kuravan and Kurathi statues. Go at sunset. Vagamon is a different proposition: it sits on the western side of the district and is reached more easily from the Kottayam direction than through Kattappana, so combining both in one trip means routing the days carefully rather than treating them as neighbours. It is entirely doable across four days, and we will lay out the sequence at the quotation stage.
The vehicle staying with you is not optional here, it is how Idukki works. Nothing in this district is walkable from anything else, and the same Urbania and driver cover the dam, Kalvary Mount, Ramakkalmedu, Kattappana, Thommankuthu and any Munnar or Thekkady extension across three or four days. Multi-day bookings are billed on total kilometres and hours with a per-day minimum plus driver allowance and night halt charges. On sleepers, no — Tejas Tours and Travels does not operate sleeper bus services and all our vehicles including the Urbania are seated configuration, though the full recliners make the dawn start considerably easier than a standard van does.
September to May. The southwest monsoon from June brings very heavy rain to these hills and the district has a history of landslips in bad years, so July and August dates are worth checking against conditions rather than assuming. September to February is the most pleasant, with the hills green after the rains, and it is also when Vagamon and the viewpoints are at their best. On insurance, we do not cover passenger insurance; vehicles carry statutory motor insurance and drivers hold valid commercial licences, but personal travel cover should be arranged independently. To book, call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773 or email info@tejastravels.com with your travel date, Bangalore pickup location, group size, preferred seating variant, property name and day-wise itinerary. A written itemised quote follows within 2 hours; confirm it, pay the 20 percent advance, and you receive driver details, vehicle registration and the full billing breakdown in writing. Our urbania van rental enquiry lines are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
