The Coracle Ride
The parisal - a round basket boat of bamboo and hide, unchanged in design for centuries - is the reason most people come. A short walk from the falls, this small government-run facility houses a sizeable population of rescued crocodiles alongside a herbal garden and an eco shop selling honey, tea and herbal powders. It is modest rather than spectacular, and half an hour covers it, but children enjoy it and it makes a useful break from the sun. There is a nominal entry fee and it is generally open through the day.
Melagiri Hills and Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary
The hills you drive through on the Anchetty route form part of the Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary, a dry deciduous forest belt that is an important elephant corridor between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, with leopard, sloth bear, four-horned antelope and a strong bird list. October to February is the sweet spot - the falls are in strong post-monsoon flow but the current has settled enough for coracle rides to run safely. During peak monsoon between June and September the volume is spectacular but boating is often suspended for safety. April and May are hot, with more exposed rock than water. Check conditions before travelling in the monsoon.
Coracles are charged per boat rather than per person, so cost per head falls as your group grows, and rates vary with season and demand. Agree the price and exactly what the ride covers before boarding, because operators often offer to cross to the Karnataka side as a paid extra. Insist on life jackets and choose an operator who offers them unprompted. The boatmen are highly skilled, but the Kaveri deserves respect.

Entry and vehicle parking at the falls, coracle rides, oil massages and food at the riverside stalls are all paid directly by you on site, and most are cash transactions with negotiable rates. Carry cash - card and UPI acceptance at the falls is patchy.

Tempo travellers seat eight to eighteen, Force Urbania thirteen to seventeen, minibuses twelve to twenty-four, and coaches twenty-seven to fifty. Large vehicles are routed via NH44, since the Anchetty ghat road is unsuitable for anything bigger than a small tempo traveller. For weekend group bookings, confirm at least a week ahead.
Twenty per cent of the total fare confirms the booking, paid digitally by UPI, bank transfer or card link, with a receipt within thirty minutes. Between 48 and 72 hours a 10 per cent charge applies, between 24 and 48 hours 25 per cent, and between 12 and 24 hours 50 per cent. Under 12 hours attracts 75 per cent, and a no-show where the vehicle has been deployed is charged in full.
