The distance is 215 to 220 kilometres depending on your pickup point in Bangalore, taken via NH-275 through Mysore and then NH-766 through Nanjangud and Gundlupet. A tempo traveller covers it in 5 to 5 hours 30 minutes with one halt. Add around 45 minutes on Saturday mornings when Mysore Road is busy. To make the 6:00 am safari slot, most groups leave Bangalore between 12:30 am and 1:00 am and reach by dawn, or travel the previous evening and stay overnight near the reserve.
Rates start at around Rs 11500. A one day round trip is billed garage to garage, which typically works out to 450 to 480 kilometres. The exact figure depends on your date, vehicle variant and itinerary, so send your details on WhatsApp and you will have an itemised written quote within 2 hours. Split across a group of twelve or more, the per head cost is usually lower than individual bus tickets.
We operate 8 to 20 seaters. For 8 to 10 passengers the 9 or 10 seater is right, for 11 to 14 the 14 seater, and for 15 to 17 the 17 seater. As a rule, book one seat more than your headcount on a wildlife trip, because camera bags, tripods and coolers take real space. Above 18 passengers a 12 to 24 seater minibus is the better fit, and above 24 a 27 to 50 seater bus. For 13 to 17 passengers who want a more premium cabin, the Force Urbania is worth considering.
Yes. Vehicle movement on the NH-766 stretch through the reserve, between Gundlupet and Sultan Bathery towards Wayanad and on the Gundlupet to Ooty road, is prohibited between 9:00 pm and 6:00 am to protect wildlife. This does not stop you reaching the Bandipur safari reception centre and the resorts on the Karnataka side, but it does mean that any onward travel to Ooty or Wayanad, and any late departure through the forest, has to be planned for daylight hours. Our drivers plan around this automatically, and it is one reason a written itinerary matters on this route.
Safari tickets are issued by the Karnataka Forest Department at the reception centre counters or through their official online system, and they are paid for directly by passengers. They are not part of your vehicle fare. Your driver will get you to the counter in good time for your chosen slot and will advise which slot gives the best sighting odds. Park entry fees and the Gopalaswamy Betta shuttle charge work the same way. Private vehicles, including our tempo traveller, cannot enter the safari tourism zone.
The quoted fare includes the base fare, fuel charges and the driver allowance. Charged separately are toll and parking, interstate tax and permits where applicable, driver bata beyond 9:45 pm, and GST. The final rental is calculated on the total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage. Every one of these items appears in your written quote before you pay, so there are no end of trip surprises.
Twenty percent of the total fare is payable in advance to confirm the booking and hold the specific vehicle for your date. The balance is settled at the end of the trip after the advance is deducted. Advance payment can be made by UPI, NEFT, IMPS, RTGS or card through a payment link, and the receipt is issued within 30 minutes. For peak dates such as long weekends, Dasara and New Year, book as early as you can, since the larger tempo travellers go first.
Cancellation more than 72 hours before departure carries no charge and the full advance is refunded within 5 to 7 working days. Between 48 and 72 hours a 10 percent charge applies, between 24 and 48 hours 25 percent, between 12 and 24 hours 50 percent, and under 12 hours 75 percent. A no show where the vehicle has been deployed is charged in full. If we cancel for a breakdown or force majeure, you get a full refund within 2 working days or a substitute vehicle. Refunds go back to the original payment instrument.
Yes, and it is one of the most common requests on this route. Ooty is around 80 kilometres away through the Masinagudi ghat, Wayanad is roughly 60 kilometres west through Muthanga, and Kabini is 60 to 80 kilometres north. Tell us at the enquiry stage so the interstate permit for Tamil Nadu or Kerala is arranged in advance and priced into your quote. Note that the ghat road to Ooty with its 36 hairpin bends is not suited to every vehicle size, so we will recommend the appropriate variant for your group.
Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passenger insurance, and we recommend that groups arrange their own travel cover, particularly for school and corporate trips. We also do not operate sleeper bus service. For overnight comfort on longer circuits our push back tempo travellers, Force Urbania and Volvo seater coaches are the options, and on the Bandipur route in particular the night traffic restriction makes an overnight halt near the reserve the more sensible plan anyway.
