Prasanthi Nilayam and Sai Kulwant Hall
The ashram, whose name means Abode of Highest Peace, was established in 1950 and remains the headquarters of the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust. Sai Kulwant Hall is the main assembly space and houses the Mahasamadhi, and darshan and bhajan sessions run morning and evening. Visitors are asked to dress modestly, observe silence in the prayer areas, and respect restrictions on photography and mobile phones. Bangalore
Departure Point
Your journey to Ooty begins from Bangalore, the gateway to South India's most beloved hill stations. Pick-up is available from any part of the city — Koramangala, Electronic City, Whitefield, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Marathahalli, or Majestic. The most common route out of Bangalore takes you onto NH275, the six-lane Mysore Expressway, which is one of the smoothest and best-maintained national highways in Karnataka. An early departure between 5 AM and 6 AM is strongly advised to clear Bangalore city limits before peak traffic begins. The first 50 km on the expressway are fast, comfortable, and lightly trafficked in the early hours, setting a pleasant tone for the journey ahead. Our drivers are experienced in choosing the optimal departure window and route based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring that the first stretch of your Bangalore to Ooty road trip is efficient, calm, and enjoyable from the very first kilometre.
Chikkaballapur and Nandi Hills
Source of the Chitravathi
Nandi Hills rises to the west, one of the best-known sunrise points in South India and the summer retreat of Tipu Sultan. It is also a watershed: five rivers are said to rise here, and one of them is the Chitravathi, the same river that runs below Puttaparthi. There is a pleasing symmetry in following it upstream to its destination. Chikkaballapur town on the highway has the most reliable breakfast stops on the route, with idli, vada and filter coffee from around six.

Lepakshi
The Hanging Pillar Temple
Roughly fifteen kilometres off the highway near Hindupur, Lepakshi is the finest detour on this route and adds barely an hour. The sixteenth-century Veerabhadra temple holds the celebrated hanging pillar, which clears the floor by a fraction and has puzzled visitors for four centuries, along with some of the best surviving Vijayanagara mural painting anywhere. Outside sits the enormous monolithic Nandi, carved from a single granite boulder and the largest of its kind in India. The name comes from the Ramayana - Le Pakshi, rise, O bird, spoken to the wounded Jatayu.
Penukonda
Ghanagiri, the Vijayanagara Capital
Penukonda was the second capital of the Vijayanagara empire after the fall of Hampi, and the hill above the town, once called Ghanagiri, still carries the fort walls, watchtowers and temple ruins. The Gagan Mahal palace and the Sher Khan mosque sit in the town below, evidence of the layered rule the region passed through. Penukonda is also the last proper meal stop before Puttaparthi and has good highway restaurants. From here you leave NH44 for the final approach east.

Puttaparthi
The Village of Anthills
You arrive three and a half to four hours after leaving Bangalore. Puttaparthi is compact and walkable, and almost everything of interest sits within or immediately around Prasanthi Nilayam. It is a town shaped entirely by one institution - a university, a super-speciality hospital that treats patients free of charge, a planetarium and a small airport, all built by the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust. Since 2022 it has also been the headquarters of the new Sri Sathya Sai district. Accommodation ranges from ashram lodging to modest hotels on Main Road.

Urbania Packages for the Bangalore to Puttaparthi Route
Corporate Package
For Bangalore companies running leadership offsites, staff pilgrimage days and CSR visits, and for teams calling on the Sri Sathya Sai institutions officially. The Urbania is the vehicle of choice when the passenger list includes people you would not put in a standard van. Includes GST invoicing, a Proforma Invoice for PO-based approval, a named driver for the full trip and consolidated monthly billing for registered accounts. Our corporate travels bangalore desk manages the arrangement end to end, and a second corporate urbania bangalore can be added when the headcount runs past seventeen.
Family and Pilgrimage Package
The most common Urbania booking on this corridor. Built for extended families and small Sai Samithi groups travelling for a specific session, and designed around darshan timings rather than a fixed clock. The low floor and wide door matter here: grandparents board without a climb, and there is no step to negotiate at the ashram gate after a long morning. Luggage space takes offerings, books and instruments without anything sitting in the aisle. Groups adding Lepakshi or Penukonda on the way back should say so at enquiry so the day is timed properly.
Luxury and Executive Package
The executive Urbania layout trades two seats for width and legroom, with fully reclining seats, individual lighting and better sound insulation. On a route where the group is often elderly and the return leg runs into the evening, that is a functional difference rather than a cosmetic one. It also suits family occasions where guests are travelling in from overseas, and any booking where the vehicle is part of the impression. For larger parties the mini bus rental in bangalore service covers twelve to twenty-four and the bus rental in bangalore fleet takes over beyond that.
Our Urbania Fleet in Bangalore
Our ac urbania rental bangalore fleet covers 13 and 17 seater Force Urbania vehicles in standard and executive layouts. We run the full range of group vehicles from the same Bangalore base, so if your headcount changes after booking we can usually move you up or down a category without restarting the process.
• Force Urbania — 13 to 17 seater luxury van, the core vehicle for this page
• Tempo traveller — 8 to 18 seater, the standard alternative in the same capacity band
• Mini bus — 12 to 24 seater, for groups that outgrow an Urbania
• Bus — 27 to 50 seater, including Volvo and Benz coaches for large groups
• Cars — 4 to 7 seater, from Etios, Dzire, Innova, Innova Crysta, Innova Hycross, Fortuner and Commuter through Corolla Altis, Camry, Audi A6, Audi Q7, BMW 5 Series, BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz E Class, Mercedes-Benz S Class and Rolls-Royce Ghost
Tejas Tours and Travels does not operate sleeper bus services. Every vehicle in our fleet is seated configuration with push-back seats. On the Puttaparthi route this makes no practical difference, since the trip is a comfortable daytime run and an early departure puts the group at the ashram in good time for the morning session.
Billing Details — What Is Included and What Is Extra
We quote in writing before you book and the quote itemises everything, so there are no surprises at trip end. A 20 percent advance of the total fare confirms your booking.
Included in the Quoted Fare
• Base fare and fuel charges
• Driver allowance
Not Included — Billed Separately at Actuals
• Toll charges and parking fees
• Interstate tax and permit for the Karnataka to Andhra Pradesh crossing
• Additional driver bata after 9:45 PM
• GST as applicable
• Final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage
The garage-to-garage basis is standard across the organised group transport industry in Bangalore. The meter starts when the vehicle leaves our garage for your pickup point and stops when it returns. We factor this into the written quote, so the number you approve is the number you pay. On this route the Andhra Pradesh permit is a genuine cost and we show it as a separate line rather than folding it into the base rate, which is worth checking against any quote you compare us with.
Tejas Tours and Travels does not provide passenger insurance cover. Passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance if required. Vehicle insurance and full statutory driver and vehicle compliance are maintained across the fleet.

What Our Customers Say About Our Urbania Services in Bangalore
Why Choose Tejas Tours and Travels?
Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Puttaparthi Urbania
The bangalore to puttaparthi distance by road is approximately 165 kilometres via NH44, through Devanahalli, Chikkaballapur, Bagepalli and the Kodikonda check post, then via Penukonda and Bukkapatnam. In an Urbania the drive takes 3 hours 30 minutes to 4 hours including one halt. Leaving Bangalore between 4:30 AM and 5:30 AM is worth the early start, because the stretch out to Devanahalli alone can take twice as long once the morning traffic sets in.
The Urbania has a monocoque body rather than a ladder-frame chassis, which makes the cabin quieter and the ride flatter, particularly on the narrower stretch past Penukonda. The floor is lower so boarding does not involve a climb, the roof is high enough to walk down the aisle upright, and the seats recline properly. A tempo traveller carries a similar number of passengers for less money and remains the sensible choice on a tight budget. The Urbania is what you book when comfort, and in particular the comfort of older passengers, is the deciding factor.
Urbania fare starts around Rs 13,500. The final figure depends on vehicle class, number of days and total kilometres run. Since billing is garage to garage on actual kilometres and hours, we issue a written itemised quote within 2 hours rather than a verbal estimate.
Yes. Puttaparthi is in Andhra Pradesh, so crossing from Karnataka requires a valid interstate permit, billed at actuals rather than absorbed into the base rate. It is checked at the Kodikonda post shortly after Bagepalli. We arrange the documentation before departure, so there is nothing for the group to do and clearance normally takes minutes. Treat any quote that does not mention the permit with caution, because the cost will appear later.
Yes, and most Urbania bookings on this route are exactly that. A 5:00 AM departure reaches Prasanthi Nilayam by around 8:30 AM, leaving the morning free for darshan, the museum and planetarium after lunch, and a comfortable return by evening. Adding Lepakshi or Penukonda on the way back makes for a long but manageable day. Groups wanting both the morning and evening sessions should plan an overnight stay instead.
We operate 13 and 17 seater Force Urbania vehicles. The 17 seater is the standard layout and the 13 seater is the executive configuration, which trades two seats for width and legroom. Below twelve passengers a Fortuner, Innova Crysta or Innova Hycross is usually more economical. Above seventeen we move you to a 12 to 24 seater mini bus, and above twenty-four to a 27 to 50 seater bus. Because we run every category from the same base, a change in headcount before the travel date can normally be accommodated without cancelling.
Vehicles are not permitted inside the ashram, so the driver sets the group down at the gate and parks in the designated area nearby. The Urbania's size lets him get closer to the drop-off point than a coach can on ordinary days, which matters when part of the group is elderly. On Aradhana, the 23 November birthday and other major festival dates the parking area moves further out under police management, so we confirm the arrangement with the group leader the evening before.
Yes, and both sit on the route rather than off it. Lepakshi is about twenty-five kilometres from the Kodikonda junction and needs roughly ninety minutes for the Veerabhadra temple, the hanging pillar and the monolithic Nandi. Penukonda falls on the return leg and is worth a couple of hours for the fort and the Gagan Mahal. Tell us at enquiry stage and the extra kilometres go into the original quote rather than being charged as an extension afterwards.
Yes, and this is how most two-day groups book it. The same vehicle and driver stay with you throughout, covering the ashram, the Chaitanya Jyoti Museum, the planetarium, the Chitravathi and the hill, plus onward legs to Lepakshi, Penukonda, Horsley Hills or Tirupati. Multi-day bookings are billed on total kilometres and hours with a per-day minimum plus driver allowance, quoted as a single number. Ashram accommodation is arranged separately by your group with the ashram administration.
Cancelling more than 72 hours before departure carries no charge and the full advance is refunded within 5 to 7 working days. Between 48 and 72 hours the charge is 10 percent of the total fare, between 24 and 48 hours 25 percent, and between 12 and 24 hours 50 percent. Urbania and other luxury vehicles need a minimum 5-day notice for a full refund, and Puttaparthi festival dates a minimum 7-day notice. On insurance, Tejas Tours and Travels does not provide passenger insurance cover, and passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance if they wish to be covered. All vehicles carry valid insurance and full statutory compliance, and every driver is verified with a commercial licence and route experience. To book, call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773 or email info@tejastravels.com. Our force urbania hire enquiry lines are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
