Places to Visit in Lakkundi

Kasivisvesvara Temple
The finest building at Lakkundi and one of the finest Kalyani Chalukya temples anywhere - a twin shrine with the Kasivisvesvara facing a smaller Surya Narayana temple across a shared court, so the two look at each other. The doorframes and the pierced stone windows carry carving of a density that repays close and slow attention, and the tower is a late Chalukya form worked with real confidence. Visit in the morning when the light reaches the east face. Allow an hour, which is more than most people give it and less than it deserves.

Bangalore
Departure Point
Your journey to Ooty begins from Bangalore, the gateway to South India's most beloved hill stations. Pick-up is available from any part of the city — Koramangala, Electronic City, Whitefield, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Marathahalli, or Majestic. The most common route out of Bangalore takes you onto NH275, the six-lane Mysore Expressway, which is one of the smoothest and best-maintained national highways in Karnataka. An early departure between 5 AM and 6 AM is strongly advised to clear Bangalore city limits before peak traffic begins. The first 50 km on the expressway are fast, comfortable, and lightly trafficked in the early hours, setting a pleasant tone for the journey ahead. Our drivers are experienced in choosing the optimal departure window and route based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring that the first stretch of your Bangalore to Ooty road trip is efficient, calm, and enjoyable from the very first kilometre.

Tumakuru
Kalpataru Nadu
The route leaves Bangalore northwest on NH 48, and the Nelamangala junction is the only stretch that depends on timing rather than road - our drivers aim to be past it before 7:00 AM, since four corridors diverge there and it builds fast on weekend mornings. Beyond Nelamangala the highway is six-lane and quick. Tumakuru is the Kalpataru Nadu, the land of the wish-fulfilling tree, which here means coconut - the district grows a great deal of it. The Siddaganga Math on the edge of town has fed and educated students free for generations and is worth knowing about as you pass.

Chitradurga
Fort of Seven Rounds
A hundred and thirty kilometres of fast divided highway across increasingly dry plateau. Sira is easy to drive past and worth a note: it was the seat of a Mughal subah in the early eighteenth century, the southernmost formal Mughal province, and the Jumma Masjid and the remains of the Khan Bagh survive from it. Chitradurga is the stop on this route. The fort climbs a granite outcrop in seven concentric lines of wall, using the natural boulders as part of the defence, and it is among the most impressive hill forts in India - the story of Onake Obavva defending a breach with a pestle belongs to it. Two hours does it justice. On a Lakkundi run our drivers stop here for breakfast whether or not you climb.
Haveri
Confluence Town
Fast highway through the cotton and maize country of central Karnataka. Davangere built its name on cotton mills and keeps it now on the benne dosa - butter dosa - which is genuinely worth stopping for and which most travellers on this road do. Harihar follows on the Tungabhadra with its twelfth-century temple to Harihara, Vishnu and Shiva in a single image. Byadgi, near Haveri, is the chilli town: the deep-red GI-tagged Byadgi chilli is grown and traded here and prized across India for colour rather than heat, and in season the yards are a striking thing to pass. This whole stretch is agricultural trading country and the highway reflects it.
Lakkundi
Town of a Hundred Stepwells
Hubballi is the commercial and railway hub of north Karnataka and the largest city on this route after Bangalore. From here the road turns east toward Gadag through open Deccan country - flat, dry, with black cotton soil and very little tree cover, which is a completely different landscape from anything on our southern routes. Gadag holds the Trikuteshwara complex and the Saraswati shrine with its carved pillars, and Lakkundi is twelve kilometres beyond it. The village announces itself with nothing at all - there is no gate and no signage of consequence, and the temples simply begin appearing among the houses. Accommodation is at Gadag or Hubballi rather than Lakkundi itself. Our driver takes you to the confirmed address and assists with luggage. A 6:00 AM departure puts most travellers in by around 2:00 PM.

Tempo Traveller Packages for the Bangalore to Lakkundi Route
Corporate Package
Built for Bangalore teams travelling into North Karnataka for plant visits, dealer meets, offsites and annual outings, and for the industrial corridor around Hubballi and Dharwad. Includes GST invoicing, a Proforma Invoice for PO-based approval, a named driver for the full trip, and consolidated monthly billing for registered accounts. The same corporate tempo traveller bangalore stays with your team across the Gadag, Lakkundi, Hubballi and Hampi legs, with duty slips signed daily and reconciled against the final invoice. For companies whose work already takes them to Hubballi, adding a day at Lakkundi and Itagi turns a routine trip into something people remember. Our corporate travels bangalore desk manages the arrangement end to end.
Family and Heritage Package
The characteristic booking on this corridor is not a family holiday but a study trip: architecture and history departments, photography societies, heritage groups and school seniors, travelling in parties of twelve to eighteen with equipment. The package is built for that — luggage volume for tripods and cases, a driver who repositions the vehicle as the group works through a scattered site rather than parking once, and an itinerary that respects site opening days rather than assuming everything is open every morning. Families booking the Hampi and Lakkundi combination use the same structure. Our school transportation services division handles the larger college groups on this route.
Budget Package
For groups where cost per head decides the booking. Standard 8 to 13 seater tempo travellers, clean vehicle, verified driver, no frills — the tier that most college and community bookings use. The tempo traveller rate per km in bangalore for the standard tier is our lowest group-vehicle rate, and across a 420 kilometre one-way run the saving against multiple cars is substantial. One caution specific to this route: we do not recommend the non-AC option for travel between March and June, because Gadag district heat makes it a false economy. The budget tier concerns vehicle specification only; maintenance, driver vetting and documentation are identical across every tier.
Luxury Package
The 17 and 18 seater vehicles in a fuller specification, or a smaller variant run below capacity so every passenger has a spare seat beside them. Across eight hours each way and several days of local running in hot, dry country, better seating and stronger air conditioning earn their premium. For a further step up in the same seat range, our force urbania rent bangalore fleet offers full recliner seats, dual-zone air conditioning and per-seat charging in 8 to 16 seater configurations and runs the same route.
Our Tempo Traveller Fleet in Bangalore
Our luxury tempo traveller bangalore fleet covers 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 17 and 18 seater configurations, all air conditioned, with push-back seating, charging points and GPS tracking. We run the full range of group vehicles from one Bangalore base, so a change in headcount after booking can usually be handled without starting over.
• Tempo traveller — 8 to 18 seater AC, the core vehicle for this route
• Force Urbania — 8 to 16 seater luxury van, the premium alternative in the same seat range
• Mini bus — 12 to 24 seater, the usual choice for a full college batch on this circuit
• Bus — 27 to 50 seater, including Volvo and Benz coaches for large movements
• Cars — 4 to 7 seater, from Etios, Dzire, Innova, Innova Crysta, Innova Hycross and Fortuner through Corolla Altis, Camry, Audi A6, Audi Q7, BMW 5 Series, BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz E Class, Mercedes-Benz S Class and Rolls-Royce Ghost
Tejas Tours and Travels does not operate sleeper bus services. All our vehicles are seated configuration with push-back seats. On this route we plan an overnight halt at Gadag or Hubballi rather than driving through the night, which is both safer and considerably more restful, and it also means your group reaches Lakkundi in morning light rather than at the end of a long day.
Billing Details — What Is Included and What Is Extra
We quote in writing before you book and the quote itemises everything, so there are no surprises at trip end. A 20 percent advance of the total fare confirms your booking.
Included in the Quoted Fare
• Base fare and fuel charges
• Driver allowance
Not Included — Billed Separately at Actuals
• Toll charges and parking fees
• Interstate tax, where a route crosses a state border
• Additional driver bata after 9:45 PM
• GST as applicable
• Final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage
On the Bangalore to Lakkundi route specifically, no interstate tax applies, because the journey stays inside Karnataka throughout. Tolls, however, are heavier here than on our coastal routes, because NH48 is a tolled four-lane corridor for most of its length. We estimate them in the written quote rather than leaving them as a surprise at trip end. Monument entry fees at Chitradurga, Hampi and the ASI sites are paid directly by passengers and are not part of the vehicle quote.
The garage-to-garage basis is standard across the organised group transport industry in Bangalore. The meter starts when the vehicle leaves our garage for your pickup point and ends when it returns. We build this into the written quote, so the number you approve is the number you pay.
Tejas Tours and Travels does not provide passenger insurance cover. Passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance if required. Vehicle insurance and full statutory driver and vehicle compliance are maintained across the fleet.

The Lakkundi run is one of several North Karnataka heritage corridors we operate. These are the routes groups book most often from Bangalore.

• Bangalore to Chitradurga — 200 km, four hours. The seven-walled fort, directly on this route and worth a stop in its own right.
• Bangalore to Gadag — 410 km. The district headquarters, eleven kilometres from Lakkundi and the base most groups use.
• Bangalore to Hubballi and Dharwad — 410 km. The commercial and university twin cities, about 70 km from Lakkundi.
• Bangalore to Bijapur — 520 km. The Gol Gumbaz and the Adil Shahi monuments, usually added to a longer North Karnataka itinerary.
• Bangalore to Davanagere — 265 km, five hours. Directly on this route and a common corporate destination in its own right.
• Bangalore to Belgaum — 500 km. Often combined with Hubballi for industrial and corporate travel.
• Bangalore to Shivamogga — 275 km. The gateway of Malnad, and the alternative direction for groups wanting greenery rather than Deccan plain.

What Our Customers Say About Our Tempo Traveller Services in Bangalore
Why Choose Tejas Tours and Travels?
Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Lakkundi Tempo Traveller
The bangalore to lakkundi distance by road is approximately 420 kilometres, running on NH48 through Tumkur, Sira, Hiriyur, Chitradurga, Davanagere and Ranebennur to Haveri, then northeast on state road through Savanur and Shirahatti to Gadag, and eleven kilometres further east on NH67 to Lakkundi. Driving time is 8 to 9 hours. Distance figures for this route vary between sources because there are several workable combinations of state highway after Haveri; we quote on the route we actually drive.
Tempo traveller fare costs around Rs 22,000. The final figure depends on vehicle class, number of days and total kilometres run. Since billing is garage to garage on actual kilometres and hours, we issue a written itemised quote within 2 hours rather than a verbal estimate.
A 20 percent advance of the total fare confirms your booking and guarantees the specific tempo traveller variant on your travel date. The advance must be paid digitally by UPI, bank transfer or card. A receipt is issued within 30 minutes, and the balance is settled at trip end after deducting the advance. For college and institutional bookings we can issue a Proforma Invoice first so your accounts office can release the advance against it.
No. A same-day return is 840 kilometres and around eighteen hours on the road. Every group stays at least one night, almost always at Gadag or Hubballi, since Lakkundi itself has essentially no accommodation. Two to four nights is realistic once Chitradurga, Gadag, Dambal, Itagi and Hampi are added, which they usually are.
October to February. Gadag district is dry Deccan and April to June routinely exceeds forty degrees, which is punishing at open, unshaded stone sites where your group will be walking for hours. If you must travel in summer, plan the site visits for early morning and late afternoon and take the middle of the day indoors, and do not book the non-AC vehicle tier.
No. The route stays inside Karnataka throughout, so no interstate permit or border tax applies. All vehicle documentation, fitness, permit and driver compliance for Karnataka is maintained as standard across the fleet, and our drivers handle checkpoint formalities routinely.
Our 17 seater tempo traveller rent bangalore fleet, along with 8, 9, 10, 12, 13 and 18 seater variants, covers most group sizes. For a department of twelve to eighteen with camera and study equipment, the 17 or 18 seater is the right call, since luggage volume matters more than headcount on this kind of trip. For a full college batch of thirty or more we would run a 12 to 24 seater mini bus or a coach instead, and we are happy to quote both so your institution can compare.
Yes, and most groups do. Hampi is roughly 130 kilometres east and covers the Vijayanagara period; Badami, Aihole and Pattadakal are about 120 kilometres northwest and cover the early Chalukyan phase, which together with Lakkundi and Itagi gives you the whole Chalukyan sequence. The same vehicle and driver stay with you throughout. Multi-day bookings are billed on total kilometres and hours with a per-day minimum plus driver allowance. Share your day-wise itinerary and we quote the trip as one number.
No. Tejas Tours and Travels does not operate sleeper bus services. All our vehicles are seated configuration with push-back seats. On this route we plan an overnight halt at Gadag or Hubballi instead of driving through the night, which is safer and more restful, and it puts your group at Lakkundi in morning light — which, at a site this dependent on carved detail and raking shadow, is not a small consideration.
Tejas Tours and Travels does not provide passenger insurance cover. Passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance if they wish to be covered. All vehicles carry valid insurance and full statutory compliance, and every driver is verified with a commercial licence and route experience, but personal passenger cover is not part of the booking. To book, call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773 or email info@tejastravels.com with your travel date, Bangalore pickup location, group size and day-wise itinerary. A written itemised quote follows within 2 hours; confirm it, pay the 20 percent advance, and you receive driver details, vehicle registration and the full billing breakdown in writing. Our tempo traveller hire bangalore enquiry lines are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
