Places to Visit in Lakkundi

Kasivisvesvara Temple
The finest building at Lakkundi and one of the finest Kalyani Chalukya temples anywhere - a twin shrine with the Kasivisvesvara facing a smaller Surya Narayana temple across a shared court, so the two look at each other. The doorframes and the pierced stone windows carry carving of a density that repays close and slow attention, and the tower is a late Chalukya form worked with real confidence. Visit in the morning when the light reaches the east face. Allow an hour, which is more than most people give it and less than it deserves.

Bangalore
Departure Point
Your journey to Ooty begins from Bangalore, the gateway to South India's most beloved hill stations. Pick-up is available from any part of the city — Koramangala, Electronic City, Whitefield, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Marathahalli, or Majestic. The most common route out of Bangalore takes you onto NH275, the six-lane Mysore Expressway, which is one of the smoothest and best-maintained national highways in Karnataka. An early departure between 5 AM and 6 AM is strongly advised to clear Bangalore city limits before peak traffic begins. The first 50 km on the expressway are fast, comfortable, and lightly trafficked in the early hours, setting a pleasant tone for the journey ahead. Our drivers are experienced in choosing the optimal departure window and route based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring that the first stretch of your Bangalore to Ooty road trip is efficient, calm, and enjoyable from the very first kilometre.

Tumakuru
Kalpataru Nadu
The route leaves Bangalore northwest on NH 48, and the Nelamangala junction is the only stretch that depends on timing rather than road - our drivers aim to be past it before 7:00 AM, since four corridors diverge there and it builds fast on weekend mornings. Beyond Nelamangala the highway is six-lane and quick. Tumakuru is the Kalpataru Nadu, the land of the wish-fulfilling tree, which here means coconut - the district grows a great deal of it. The Siddaganga Math on the edge of town has fed and educated students free for generations and is worth knowing about as you pass.

Chitradurga
Fort of Seven Rounds
A hundred and thirty kilometres of fast divided highway across increasingly dry plateau. Sira is easy to drive past and worth a note: it was the seat of a Mughal subah in the early eighteenth century, the southernmost formal Mughal province, and the Jumma Masjid and the remains of the Khan Bagh survive from it. Chitradurga is the stop on this route. The fort climbs a granite outcrop in seven concentric lines of wall, using the natural boulders as part of the defence, and it is among the most impressive hill forts in India - the story of Onake Obavva defending a breach with a pestle belongs to it. Two hours does it justice. On a Lakkundi run our drivers stop here for breakfast whether or not you climb.
Haveri
Confluence Town
Fast highway through the cotton and maize country of central Karnataka. Davangere built its name on cotton mills and keeps it now on the benne dosa - butter dosa - which is genuinely worth stopping for and which most travellers on this road do. Harihar follows on the Tungabhadra with its twelfth-century temple to Harihara, Vishnu and Shiva in a single image. Byadgi, near Haveri, is the chilli town: the deep-red GI-tagged Byadgi chilli is grown and traded here and prized across India for colour rather than heat, and in season the yards are a striking thing to pass. This whole stretch is agricultural trading country and the highway reflects it.
Lakkundi
Town of a Hundred Stepwells
Hubballi is the commercial and railway hub of north Karnataka and the largest city on this route after Bangalore. From here the road turns east toward Gadag through open Deccan country - flat, dry, with black cotton soil and very little tree cover, which is a completely different landscape from anything on our southern routes. Gadag holds the Trikuteshwara complex and the Saraswati shrine with its carved pillars, and Lakkundi is twelve kilometres beyond it. The village announces itself with nothing at all - there is no gate and no signage of consequence, and the temples simply begin appearing among the houses. Accommodation is at Gadag or Hubballi rather than Lakkundi itself. Our driver takes you to the confirmed address and assists with luggage. A 6:00 AM departure puts most travellers in by around 2:00 PM.

Bus Packages for the Bangalore to Lakkundi Route
Corporate Package
For Bangalore teams heading north for offsites and annual outings, and for companies with plant or dealer interests around Hubballi, Davangere and Gadag. Includes GST invoicing, a Proforma Invoice for PO-based approval, a named driver for the full multi-day trip, and consolidated monthly billing for registered accounts. The same corporate bus rental bangalore vehicle stays with the team across the Lakkundi, Gadag and Hampi legs, with duty slips signed daily and reconciled against the final invoice. Our corporate travels bangalore desk handles multi-coach movements for larger headcounts.
School, College and Family Package
The most common booking on this corridor, and unusually weighted toward study tours — architecture, history and archaeology departments run this circuit regularly, and Lakkundi plus Itagi plus Pattadakal is a better teaching sequence than Hampi alone. For school groups we plan facilities halts deliberately, given how sparse they are at the monuments. Family bookings are typically four to six day loops taking in Hampi and Badami alongside the Chalukyan sites, with the coach staying with the group throughout.
Budget Package
Where the per-head figure decides it. Non-AC 27 to 41 seater coaches, point to point, clean vehicle and a verified driver, with nothing added that a college department or a community association does not need. The bus rate per km in bangalore for the non-AC tier is our lowest, and across a run of this length the saving over forty passengers is considerable. Worth saying plainly, though: on this route in March or later, non-AC is a false economy. The budget tier varies vehicle specification only — maintenance, driver vetting and statutory compliance do not change.
Luxury and Executive Package
Volvo and Benz coaches in executive configuration, with wider push-back seats, better sound insulation and premium interiors. On the longest single-day drive we operate inside Karnataka, seat quality stops being a preference. Suited to senior management travel, milestone family trips and guest movement. Our volvo bus rental bangalore tier covers volvo luxury bus and luxury bus requirements on this route, and for smaller premium groups the luxury urbania rental bangalore option in 13 to 17 seater configuration runs the same corridor.
Our Bus Fleet in Bangalore
Coach capacity for this route runs from 27 up to 50 seats, with Volvo and Benz options in the ac bus rental bangalore tier. Every category below is held at the same Bangalore base, so a change in headcount after booking is normally handled by reallocating the vehicle rather than restarting the booking.
• Bus — 27 to 50 seater, including Volvo and Benz coaches, AC and non-AC
• Mini bus — 12 to 24 seater, for mid-sized groups on the same corridor
• Tempo traveller — 8 to 18 seater, for smaller parties
• Force Urbania — 13 to 17 seater luxury van
• Cars — 4 to 7 seater, from Etios, Dzire, Innova, Innova Crysta, Innova Hycross, Fortuner and Commuter through Corolla Altis, Camry, Audi A6, Audi Q7, BMW 5 Series, BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz E Class, Mercedes-Benz S Class and Rolls-Royce Ghost
Tejas Tours and Travels does not operate sleeper bus services. Every vehicle is seated configuration with push-back seats. Given the length of this route we plan a daytime run with an overnight hotel halt rather than continuous overnight driving.
Billing Details — What Is Included and What Is Extra
We quote in writing before you book and the quote itemises every line, so nothing appears for the first time at trip end. A 20 percent advance of the total fare confirms the booking.
Included in the Quoted Fare
• Base fare and fuel charges
• Driver allowance
Not Included — Billed Separately at Actuals
• Toll charges and parking fees
• Interstate tax, where an itinerary crosses into another state
• Additional driver bata after 9:45 PM
• GST as applicable
• Final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage
Lakkundi lies entirely within Karnataka, so no interstate permit applies unless the itinerary extends into Goa, Maharashtra or Telangana. ASI monument entry fees, where charged, are paid at the gate and are not part of our quote. Garage-to-garage billing is standard across the organised group transport industry in Bangalore: the meter starts when the coach leaves our garage for your pickup and stops when it returns, and it is factored into the written quote, so the figure you approve is the figure you settle.
Tejas Tours and Travels does not provide passenger insurance cover. Passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance if required. Vehicle insurance and full statutory driver and vehicle compliance are maintained across the fleet.

What Our Customers Say About Our Bus Services in Bangalore
Why Choose Tejas Tours and Travels?
Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Lakkundi Bus
The bangalore to lakkundi distance is approximately 490 kilometres via NH48 to Hubballi and then NH67 east through Gadag, or approximately 430 kilometres via Chitradurga and Hospet. Allow 9.5 to 11 hours depending on which line you take. This is the longest single-day coach run we operate inside Karnataka, and we recommend against a one-day out-and-back. Either leave at 4:30 AM and stay two nights, or break the outbound journey at Chitradurga.
If Hampi is in your itinerary, take the Hospet line — it is sixty kilometres shorter and puts Hampi directly on the way. If Hampi is not in the itinerary, take the Hubballi line: it is longer on paper but four-lane for almost its whole length, with proper facilities and food stops that can seat a full coach, which usually makes it the faster and far more comfortable road for a 45 seater. Tell us your itinerary and we will recommend one.
No, and this is worth knowing before you arrive. The monuments are spread through the old village along lanes a 45 seater cannot enter. The coach parks near the Kashivishveshwara complex and the group walks between sites, which is manageable — most are close together — but plan a walking visit of two to three hours rather than a drive-between-stops itinerary. For groups with limited mobility, tell us at booking and we will plan the sequence differently.
Not at Lakkundi. The village has no tourist accommodation and very little food. Gadag, twelve kilometres away, is the nearest town with hotels and restaurants; Hubballi, seventy kilometres on, is the better base for a group of forty-five. We plan lunch and a facilities halt at Gadag immediately before the Lakkundi visit, because the ASI monuments themselves have limited or no toilets, shade or drinking water.
November to February, without much argument. This is the dry Deccan plateau and April and May regularly exceed 40 degrees with almost no shade among the ruins — genuinely difficult for a school group or older passengers. If you must travel in the hot months, start at Lakkundi early and be back on the coach by eleven, and book AC.
Bus fares around Rs 33,380. The final figure depends on vehicle class, number of days and total kilometres run. Since billing is garage to garage on actual kilometres and hours, we issue a written itemised quote within 2 hours rather than a verbal estimate.
A 20 percent advance of the total fare confirms your booking and guarantees the specific bus on your travel date. It must be paid digitally by UPI, bank transfer or card, and a receipt is issued within 30 minutes. The balance is settled at trip end. The November to February window books heaviest on this route because school and college study tours concentrate in it, so book early.
No. The route stays within Karnataka from end to end, so no permit or border tax applies. A permit becomes relevant only if you extend the itinerary into Goa, Maharashtra or Telangana — all of which are within reach from Gadag — in which case we arrange the documentation before departure and bill it at actuals.
Yes, and most groups should. Hampi is around a hundred kilometres east and Badami, Aihole and Pattadakal roughly the same distance north, which puts the Badami Chalukyas, the Kalyana Chalukyas and the Vijayanagara empire inside one four to six day loop. Itagi, eighty kilometres east of Lakkundi, is the single best addition if you only have room for one more. The same coach and driver stay with the group throughout, billed on total kilometres and hours with a per-day minimum plus driver allowance and night halt charges.
Tejas Tours and Travels does not operate sleeper bus services — all vehicles are seated configuration with push-back seats, and on a route of this length we plan a daytime run with an overnight hotel halt. We also do not provide passenger insurance cover; passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance if they wish to be covered. All vehicles carry valid insurance and full statutory compliance, and every driver is verified with a commercial licence and route experience. To book, call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773 or email info@tejastravels.com with your travel date, Bangalore pickup location, group size and day-wise itinerary. A written itemised quote follows within 2 hours; confirm it, pay the 20 percent advance, and you receive driver details, vehicle registration and the full billing breakdown in writing. Our bangalore bus booking and WhatsApp enquiry lines are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
