Jog Falls
The Sharavathi reaches the edge of a basalt escarpment and drops 253 metres in a single unbroken plunge, making it the tallest plunge waterfall in India. It splits into four named columns. Raja falls clean and vertical in one sheet. Roarer strikes a ledge partway down and explodes outward with the noise that names it. Rocket shoots out in separate jets. Rani slips down the rock face in a quieter, lace-like veil. The new viewing tower, upgraded entry gate and walking paths have made the site far better organised than it was. Arrive between 8 and 11 in the morning, because by afternoon the valley routinely fills with cloud.

Bangalore
Departure Point
Your journey to Ooty begins from Bangalore, the gateway to South India's most beloved hill stations. Pick-up is available from any part of the city — Koramangala, Electronic City, Whitefield, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Marathahalli, or Majestic. The most common route out of Bangalore takes you onto NH275, the six-lane Mysore Expressway, which is one of the smoothest and best-maintained national highways in Karnataka. An early departure between 5 AM and 6 AM is strongly advised to clear Bangalore city limits before peak traffic begins. The first 50 km on the expressway are fast, comfortable, and lightly trafficked in the early hours, setting a pleasant tone for the journey ahead. Our drivers are experienced in choosing the optimal departure window and route based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring that the first stretch of your Bangalore to Ooty road trip is efficient, calm, and enjoyable from the very first kilometre.

Tumakuru
Kalpataru Nadu, the Land of the Coconut
Tumakuru earns its nickname honestly. The district is one of the largest coconut producers in India and the palm dominates every field and roadside for the next hundred kilometres. The town is best known for the Sri Siddaganga Mutt, which has fed and educated thousands of children free of charge for over a century. Nearby, the rock fortress of Devarayanadurga rises out of the plain with its Yoganarasimha and Bhoganarasimha temples and the Namada Chilume spring at its base. For our purposes it is the natural first halt, roughly ninety minutes out, with good vegetarian restaurants on the bypass serving thatte idli and filter coffee. Most bangalore to jog falls cab trips break here before leaving the four-lane highway for the NH 206 Malnad corridor.

Kadur and Birur
Doorway to Coffee Country
Kadur and its neighbour Birur, twelve kilometres apart, form the gateway to the Chikkamagaluru coffee belt. Turn left here and you are in Chikkamagaluru within an hour, in the hills where coffee was first planted in India by Baba Budan in the seventeenth century. Stay straight and you continue to Jog. The landscape is transitional and rather beautiful, with dry-zone scrub giving way to plantation greenery. Birur is a road and rail junction with a busy grain market, and the Amruteshwara temple at Amruthapura, another fine Hoysala building from 1196 CE, lies fifteen kilometres north. Roadside stalls here sell locally roasted coffee powder and it is worth stopping for a cup.

Bhadravathi
Steel City of Karnataka
Bhadravathi is Karnataka's original industrial town. The Visvesvaraya Iron and Steel Plant was set up here in 1923 under the guidance of Sir M Visvesvaraya, using iron ore from Kemmangundi and charcoal from the surrounding forests, making this small Malnad town one of the earliest heavy-industry centres in southern India. The Mysore Paper Mills followed. Both have declined, but the industrial skyline and planned colony layout still tell the story. The Lakshmi Narasimha temple here is a superb Hoysala building from around 1250 CE, with three shrines and dense wall sculpture, and far less crowded than Belur or Halebidu.

Shivamogga
Gateway to Malnad
Shivamogga is the district headquarters and the largest city on the route after Tumakuru, sitting on the banks of the Tunga. It is the commercial heart of Malnad and the last place with full hospital, banking and shopping infrastructure before the falls. Sakrebailu Elephant Camp, fourteen kilometres out on the Thirthahalli road, lets you watch forest department elephants being bathed in the Tunga each morning, and Tyavarekoppa Lion and Tiger Safari on the Sagara road is small but well run. Shivamogga is also the natural overnight point if you left Bengaluru late, and a bangalore to shimoga cab that extends to Jog the next morning splits this journey comfortably.

Sagara
Areca Town and Seat of the Keladi Nayakas
Sagara is the last proper town before the falls and the base most travellers actually stay in. It is a prosperous areca nut and spice trading centre, and the Sunday market is worth an hour if your timing lines up. Historically this was the heartland of the Keladi Nayakas, whose temples at Ikkeri and Keladi are both within ten kilometres. The town has a relaxed Malnad character of tiled roofs, old trading houses and rain-tree shade. Practically, Sagara is where you should eat, refuel and buy anything you need, because options at the falls are limited and expensive. It is also the junction for the Sigandur bridge road and the Honnemaradu turn-off.

Jog Falls
Niagara of India
The last thirty kilometres from Sagara run through Talaguppa and Kargal, and this is the most beautiful driving of the entire route. The road narrows, the forest closes overhead and the Sharavathi Valley Lion-Tailed Macaque Sanctuary begins on both sides. Talaguppa is the railway terminus, fourteen kilometres from the falls. Kargal is the township built for the hydroelectric project workers. Then the road opens at the viewpoint and the gorge appears. Park at the main gate, walk to the viewing tower and give yourself at least two hours. Access to the stepped descent toward the base is restricted depending on water level and safety conditions, so check with staff on the day.

Bus Packages for the Bangalore to Jog Falls Route
College and School Excursion Package
The largest category on this corridor by a distance. Jog is a staple annual excursion for Bangalore colleges and schools, concentrated between November and February. We provide vehicle and driver documentation for institutional approval, multiple pickup points across the city, and coordinated convoys where a department is moving more than fifty students. We are happy to deal directly with the teacher or student coordinator rather than only a purchasing department, which usually makes planning faster. One thing we raise every time: the descent to the base is fourteen hundred steps and the climb back is hard, so the schedule needs a realistic block of time for it rather than an optimistic one.
Corporate Package
Malnad offsites run steadily from Bangalore and Jog anchors many of them, usually combined with Honnemaradu for a second-day activity. The package includes GST invoicing, a Proforma Invoice for PO-based approval, a named driver retained for the full trip, and consolidated monthly billing for registered accounts. Corporate bus rental bangalore enquiries involving water activities are planned around the operators’ fixed windows, since those cannot be moved on the day. We coordinate multi-coach movements for larger departments with a single point of contact and a common schedule, handled by our corporate travels bangalore desk.
Family and Group Package
Extended families and community groups travelling together, usually two nights with a full day at the falls and a second covering Linganamakki, Sagara and either Sigandur or Banavasi. Planned around a driver who waits without pressure and an itinerary that does not assume everyone will do the steps. Where the group includes elderly members or small children, tell us at enquiry — the viewpoint itself is entirely accessible, but the descent is not, and a good plan splits the group rather than forcing a single pace.
Budget and Luxury Tiers
For cost-led bookings we run non-AC 27 to 41 seater coaches, point to point, clean vehicle, verified driver. The bus rate per km in bangalore for the non-AC tier is our lowest, and across a 760 kilometre round trip with forty-five passengers the saving is significant — Malnad’s climate makes non-AC entirely reasonable here for most of the year. At the other end, our volvo bus rental bangalore tier covers volvo luxury bus and bharatbenz bus rental bangalore requirements, with air suspension and better sound insulation that tell on the winding sections past Shivamogga. Both tiers get the same maintenance, documentation and driver vetting.
Our Vehicle Range in Bangalore
Our ac bus rental bangalore fleet covers 27, 32, 35, 41, 45 and 50 seater configurations, including Volvo and BharatBenz coaches. We run the full range of group vehicles from one Bangalore base, so a change in headcount after booking can usually be absorbed by moving category rather than restarting.
• Bus — 27 to 50 seater, including Volvo and Benz coaches, the core vehicle for this route
• Mini bus — 12 to 24 seater, AC and non-AC, better suited if Sigandur or the narrower backwater roads are central to your plan
• Tempo traveller — 8 to 18 seater, AC and non-AC
• Force Urbania — 13 to 17 seater luxury van
• Cars — 4 to 7 seater, from Etios, Dzire, Innova, Innova Crysta and Innova Hycross through Fortuner and Commuter, up to Corolla Altis, Camry, Audi A6, Audi Q7, BMW 5 Series, BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz E Class, Mercedes-Benz S Class and Rolls-Royce Ghost
Tejas Tours and Travels does not operate sleeper bus services. All our coaches are seated configuration with push-back seats. Groups sometimes ask about an overnight departure to gain a day at Jog, and we advise against it on this route — the last two hours are winding Malnad road, and a group that arrives at dawn without sleep will not do the steps.
Billing Details — What Is Included and What Is Extra
We quote in writing before you book and the quote itemises everything, so nothing appears at trip end that you have not already approved. A 20 percent advance of the total fare confirms the booking.
Included in the Quoted Fare
• Base fare and fuel charges
• Driver allowance
Not Included — Billed Separately at Actuals
• Toll charges and parking fees
• Interstate tax, where a route crosses a state border
• Additional driver bata after 9:45 PM
• GST as applicable
• Final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage
Garage-to-garage is standard across organised group transport in Bangalore. The meter starts when the vehicle leaves our garage for your pickup and stops when it returns, and that is built into the written quote, so the figure you approve is the figure you pay. Three notes for this route. There is no interstate tax, since the journey stays entirely within Karnataka. Driver night halt charges apply on multi-day hire and will apply here, since Jog cannot be done as a day trip. And local mileage in the Sharavathi region adds up quickly — Honnemaradu, Linganamakki and Sagara across one day is well over a hundred kilometres before any detour — so we build a realistic circuit figure into the quote rather than a flattering one. Boat, kayak, jeep and ferry charges are paid locally by passengers and are not part of the vehicle quote.
Tejas Tours and Travels does not provide passenger insurance cover. Passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance if required. Vehicle insurance and full statutory driver and vehicle compliance are maintained across the fleet.

What Our Customers Say About Our Bus Services in Bangalore
Why Choose Tejas Tours and Travels?
Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Jog Falls Bus
The jog falls distance from bangalore is approximately 380 kilometres via NH48 to Tumkur, then NH206 through Tiptur, Arsikere, Kadur, Bhadravathi and Shivamogga, and finally the state road through Sagara. Allow 7 hours to 8 hours 30 minutes including halts. An alternative via Hassan, Belur and Chikmagalur runs about 400 kilometres and is worth taking if the Hoysala temples are on your itinerary. Leaving Bangalore between 5:30 AM and 6:30 AM clears Peenya and Nelamangala before they congest.
No. Fifteen to seventeen hours of driving for a couple of hours at the falls is not a trip anyone enjoys, and it rules out the descent to the base entirely. Two nights is the practical minimum — one at Shivamogga or Sagara on the way, a full day at Jog and the surrounding sights, and the return. Three nights lets you add Honnemaradu, Linganamakki and either Sigandur or Banavasi without rushing.
August to October gives the fullest flow, and November to January gives the best balance of good water and clear views. This matters more at Jog than at most waterfalls because the flow depends on releases from the Linganamakki dam rather than simply on recent rain — the falls can be thin even in a wet year if the reservoir is being held. By March and April they reduce to narrow streams. The other monsoon risk is mist, which can obscure the view completely for hours at a time in July and August. We will give you an honest read on conditions when you enquire, but nobody can guarantee the volume on a given date.
Bus fares around Rs 31,860. The final figure depends on vehicle class, number of days and total kilometres run. Since billing is garage to garage on actual kilometres and hours, we issue a written itemised quote within 2 hours rather than a verbal estimate.
Yes. NH48, NH206 and the Shivamogga–Sagara–Jog road all take a 50 seater comfortably, and the main viewpoint has coach parking, though it fills on weekends and through the season. The limits are on the surrounding legs rather than the main road: the Sigandur ferry crossing is not a coach proposition, Honnemaradu’s approach is a narrow estate road where the coach parks short, and Dabbe Falls needs a jeep transfer followed by a trek. Tell us which of those are on your list and we arrange local transport alongside the coach.
Harder than most groups expect. It is roughly fourteen hundred steps down and the same back up, steep in sections, and the return climb in Malnad humidity is genuine exertion — allow ninety minutes for the round trip and more for a mixed group. The steps get dangerously slippery in the monsoon and are sometimes closed on safety grounds. For a college group it is usually the highlight of the trip; for a family with older members it is often the thing to skip, and the viewpoint above is entirely worthwhile on its own. Plan a schedule that lets the group split rather than forcing one pace.
Yes, and it is our largest booking category on this route, concentrated between November and February. We provide vehicle and driver documentation for institutional approval, multiple pickup points across the city, and coordinated convoys where more than fifty students are travelling. We will deal directly with the teacher or student coordinator organising the trip rather than only with a purchasing department. Book early for the excursion season — coaches on those dates are committed weeks ahead.
Yes, and most groups book it that way. The same vehicle and driver stay with you across Jog, Linganamakki, Sagara, Honnemaradu and any other stops your itinerary includes. Multi-day bookings are billed on total kilometres and hours with a per-day minimum, plus driver allowance and night halt charges. Local mileage around the Sharavathi adds up faster than groups estimate, so share your day-wise plan at enquiry and we quote the whole trip as one realistic number.
No. Tejas Tours and Travels does not operate sleeper bus services, and all our coaches are seated configuration with push-back seats. Groups sometimes ask about an overnight departure to gain a day at the falls, and we advise against it here — the last two hours are winding Malnad road, and a group arriving at dawn without sleep is in no state for fourteen hundred steps.
Tejas Tours and Travels does not provide passenger insurance cover. Passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance if they wish to be covered. All vehicles carry valid insurance and full statutory compliance, and every driver is verified with a commercial licence and route experience, but personal passenger cover is not part of the booking. Note also that boating, kayaking and ferry operations at Honnemaradu and Sigandur are run by local operators independently of us. To book, call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773 or email info@tejastravels.com with your travel date, Bangalore pickup location or points, group size and day-wise itinerary. A written itemised quote follows within 2 hours; confirm it, pay the 20 percent advance, and you receive driver details, vehicle registration and the full billing breakdown in writing. Our bus hire bangalore and bangalore bus booking enquiry lines are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
