Jwala Narasimha Temple and Ugra Stambham
The jwala narasimha temple is believed to mark the place where Narasimha defeated Hiranyakashipu. It is reached by a steep trek of a few kilometres from Upper Ahobilam, with rock steps, stream crossings and a waterfall along the way. Above it rises the Ugra Stambham, the rock pinnacle traditionally seen as the pillar from which the Lord emerged. Prahlada Badi, a rock shelter linked to Prahlada's schooling, lies on the same trail. Go with a local guide and start early.
Malola Narasimha Temple
A peaceful shrine where the Lord is worshipped in a gentle form with Goddess Lakshmi. It is reached by a trek from Upper Ahobilam and is considered especially important by the Ahobila Mutt, whose processional deity is Malola Narasimha.
Pavana Narasimha Temple
Set deep in the forest by the Pavana stream, this shrine is reached by a rough forest track on which local jeeps operate from Upper Ahobilam. The ride is bumpy but memorable, and many pilgrims consider the setting the most beautiful of all nine temples.
Bhargava Narasimha Temple
Located on a small hill near Lower Ahobilam beside the Bhargava Theertham pond, where the sage Parashurama is believed to have performed penance. It involves a climb of a few hundred steps after a short drive along a rough road.
Yogananda, Chatravata and Karanja Narasimha Temples
These three shrines are easy to reach by road and are usually visited together. Yogananda shows the Lord in a meditative posture, Chatravata sits beneath a peepal tree and is associated with music, and Karanja is on the way to Upper Ahobilam near a karanja tree. Kroda Narasimha, near Upper Ahobilam, completes the nine forms.
Belum Caves
About seventy kilometres away, belum caves form one of the longest cave systems in the Indian subcontinent and the longest in the plains. Lit walkways lead past stalactites, underground chambers and the Patalaganga stream. It is an easy and popular addition on the drive in or out.
Mahanandi
Roughly seventy kilometres from Ahobilam near Nandyal, the Mahanandi temple is famous for its clear, spring-fed pools that stay at a steady level all year. Together with the nine Nandi shrines of the region, it makes an ideal pairing for pilgrims.

Two full days is comfortable for most pilgrims. The road-accessible shrines and Lower and Upper Ahobilam can be covered on one day, while Jwala, Malola and Pavana need treks or a jeep ride and are best done on a separate day with an early start.
The cab reaches Lower Ahobilam, Upper Ahobilam and the road-side shrines such as Yogananda, Chatravata and Karanja. Jwala and Malola involve treks, and Pavana Narasimha is reached by local jeeps on a forest track. Your driver will wait at the road head and help you arrange a local jeep or guide.
October to March is ideal, with cooler days that make the treks far easier.
