Manimuthar Dam and Falls
About 15 kilometres from Ambasamudram, Manimuthar Dam holds back a broad reservoir framed by forested hills, and the park below the dam is a pleasant evening stop. The falls further up lie inside the tiger reserve and access is controlled by the forest department, so check whether the road is open before you plan the day. The same road historically led up to the Manjolai tea estate hills, which also require forest permission.
Karaiyar Dam and Banatheertham Falls
Above Papanasam, the Karaiyar reservoir stretches deep into the hills, and when the forest department permits it, boats carry visitors across the water to Banatheertham Falls, a tall drop hidden in the forest. It is one of the most photogenic spots in the region. Servalar Dam sits nearby and is often combined in the same outing.
Courtallam Falls
Known as the "Spa of South India", Courtallam is about 50 kilometres north-west of Papanasam and has a series of waterfalls, including Main Falls, Five Falls and Old Courtallam, believed to carry herbal properties from the forests above. The season runs roughly June to September, when the Kerala monsoon breeze keeps the falls full and the air cool. It is an easy half-day extension for families.
Ponmudi Hills
On the Kerala side, near the road to Bonacaud, Ponmudi is a compact hill station at about 1,100 metres with tea gardens, winding hairpin bends and wide views over the Agasthyamalai forests. Trekkers often spend a night here after coming down from the peak. The road is narrow and best driven in daylight.
Neyyar Dam and Wildlife Sanctuary
Neyyar sits on the south-western edge of the biosphere reserve, around 30 kilometres from Thiruvananthapuram. The reservoir, boating, and the lion safari and crocodile rehabilitation areas associated with the sanctuary make it a relaxed day out, and the sanctuary shares its forest boundary with Agasthyarkoodam itself.

- Peak Dates: New Year, Diwali, and Bangalore long-weekends: Minimum 48-hour notice for full refund. Less than 24 hours is non-refundable.
- Force Majeure: Bangalore bandhs / force majeure (traffic disruptions, road closures): 100% refund within 2 working days regardless of notice period.
- Modifications: Modifications (date change, vehicle upgrade, route additions) with more than 24 hours notice: Accommodated at no penalty, subject to availability.
